My GTD has developed an intermittent issue where it won’t start.

The car had been on a long motorway drive today, then was parked for a couple of hours. The car has keyless ignition, and wasn’t cranking at all when pressing the Start / Stop button. Nothing happening at all.

After about 15 minutes, it started fine and then drove perfectly for another couple of hours. But something similar happened a few days ago, which I’d ignored as it resolved quickly.

A quick Carista scan shows some error codes, but these don’t seem immediately relevant and are 1-3 months old:

- 66052 - Vehicle Communication Bus E:Performance
- 1048835 - function restriction through engine control module
- 204546 - Remote control key 2: Voltage too low

I replaced the key fob battery recently, so that was taken care of at the time.

Unfortunately my Dad is terminally ill in hospital and it’s not good timing as I am relying on this car! Any advice gratefully received.

Hi
I have had this a few times on my GTD , no faults ever showed up when scanned, however I always thought my fuel pump sounded louder than it should, and have noticed the car holding back slightly on part throttle now and again and its performance to be slightly erratic randomly .
So I replied the Fuel pump control module yesterday ,and it has transformed the car performance wise , and the fuel pump is much quieter, the times when my car wouldn't start I noticed I couldn't hear the pump run , I,m pretty sure the module has been the issue .

TPS say they have sold loads of these modules as its a common failure, they aren't cheap though , I paid £154 with trade discount , they are not a bad job to replace , remove the rear seat base, take out the inspection cover above tank and the module is tucked away to the front under the floor , be warned it is held in by a plastic lug that is a complete pain to release !!
Im unable to add pictures as I,m a new member , but let me know if you need them and we can sort something

Thank you, that’s very helpful to hear as I’ve had the same sluggishness now and again too.

I had a GTD and a Leon 184 before that,

The lift pump and control module was replaced on both. The Leon without warning cut out at 60 mph on the M8 and wouldn't restart.

On the Golf the pump was getting noisy and when I got an engine management light on and a fault code relating to fuel pressure I got both parts replaced asap, didnt want to risk getting stranded again.
