I'm very new to the world of DIY car repair but I want to get good at it so I'm going to start with something that I believe should be relatively straight forward.

About a week ago my car started jittering when in a low gear going relatively slow. Stupidly I continued to drive with it as I wasn't able to get it into my regular garage for 4 days.

I went to start it Friday before going away and it wouldn't start anymore. I tried again today and it still won't start.

What would be some basic steps I can take to try and solve the issue?

You’re going to have to give a lot more detail if you’re after help.

What EXACTLY do you mean by “won’t start” for example.

Is the engine turning over on the starter?
Were there any warning lights when it was jittery?

It's one thing wanting to do something, it's very much another actually being able to, or being good at it.

When you start with zero knowledge, and presumable zero tools, equipment, etc etc....hmmm, difficult. Modern cars are not the same as stuff 40, 50 years ago, which were relatively simple to diagnose.

And has been said, what does "not starting" mean to you ?

Does anything turn on ? does it crank ? does it do anything ? etc etc have you fuel in it ?

There are a plethora of videos on youtube, although I would say some printed material, books, might be a better place to start for some basics in how a car, engine, systems work, before you can then start to attempt to diagnose problems.

If you don't know how things work, are supposed to work, you can never diagnose why they don't work.
