Hi All, in looking to buy a 991.2 GT3 CS after having just sold my 997.1

Can anyone briefly explain the seat options. I’m used to there being a buckets and comfort seat options but it seems there are two buckets and one comfort with the 991.2.

How come there are two different sorts of buckets and which is better ?

Thanks !

ok here goes folding and fixed buckets comfort 18 way and another comfort with less ways but hoping someone will provide a bit more detail as i would like to know as well, the fixed buckets I've read some put shims under to tilt forward slightly ?

Thanks, is there any major difference between the two buckets, seating position or size ?

Are the 918 buckets more desirable as an option ?

Thanks again.

I have folding buckets and adjustment is manual. Fixed buckets have electric height adjustment. Once in the seat, they are very similar.

The older style cheaper optiin cost p3 buckets have folding backrests and these seats can be heated unlike the newer 'Spyder' fixed buckets. P11s have carbon finish to the front sections matching carbon fittings on the car if these are optioned.

Main difference apart from the looks is the older p3 buckets are wider at the shoulders and narrower at the hips v the newer p11 buckets. Also the backrest of the p11s is more vertical than the p3s although this can be adjusted with spacers.

Furthermore the p11s are electric height adjustable whereas the p3s are fixed and you sit higher in these v the newer p11s.

Have the fixed LWBs in both my GT3s, and yes they have electric height adjustment. Have fitted extra foam padding into the backs of the driver's seats - behind the cushioning - for more lower back support - and the 991.2's seats both have 2x small brackets fitted at the front from 9e which pitch the seats back around an inch, as otherwise you sit very upright in the car. Less so it would seem in my 992, as I haven't bothered fitting them in that.

Great - - for me & all passengers so far - on long journeys - no back ache whatsoever - and obviously very effective at keeping everyone and everything contained during more spirited forays...

I’ve got the LWB/Fixed Back buckets in my 991.2 GT3, I have them at their lowest position and don’t find them to be too upright and even with a helmet on think they’re okay though I would say only just okay with a helmet.

They are more upright if you have the seats higher so much depends on how tall you are/how high you like to sit.

On the subject of height that is the biggest difference as AV 185 has said…the folding buckets sit quite a bit higher which I didn’t like which is why I specced mine with the fixed back buckets.

If you’d got any intention of using the car for track work I’d avoid the comfort seats personally.

I have the fixed-back 918 bucket seats in my 991.2 GT3 CS. They are great for me and it's the only car i've ever owned where I don't have the driver's seat adjusted all the way down to the floor. They do go quite low.
Seats are comfy for me & I added the tilt brackets to the drivers seat last year and they are even more comfortable now. I don't miss the seat heating, but then I don't drive the car when it's especially cold.
I did have a go in a 911 with the folding buckets at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone. They were also good, and had the ability to fold (obviously) to provide access to the rear of the interior. However if you have a CS then the cage kind of negates that. Access to the rear is a complete no-no with the cage and fixed buckets. When I do go away with a passenger I use those packing cubes from Amazon and just post my clothes in those pouches in to the back as needed. You'll need long arms and a bit of flexibility to retrieve them though!
I can't comment on the comfort seats, but in my previous 991.2 C2S i had the 14-way adjustable seats and they gave me backache on long journeys. No such issues with the fixed buckets.
Your profile says you're in South Oxfordshire. Why not pop over to RPM Technik and take a look at the seats in the cars they have there? If you speak to Greg or Alex i'm sure they could arrange for you to look all the options over in person.

There is no right /wrong ,one’s man meat is another man’s poison you really need to try them.As an example you can already see posts from people who love the 918 seats but loads of people hate them ( I sold my gt4 because I couldn’t bear them) , so I urge you to try them rather than take advice from an internet forum on something incredibly subjective .

I tried both and the fixed buckets gave me lower back ache. The folding buckets give great support and comfort for me, and I don’t find them too high at all. YMMV

Try a club sport before you think a comfort will be right for you. One sit in the buckets sold me, and with folding buckets giving access to the back i can still make use of the rear as storage. No downsides imho vs a comfort spec.

I loved the folding buckets in my 911.1 GT3. My wife hated them! You need to try them to see how your body shape fits.
Personally I wouldn’t have a GT3 without one type of buckets.

My opinion, GT3 should only be a bucket seat car.

Had the 18 ways in my 991.1 and I ended up considering it a spec cock up.

I have a 991.2 and it has the 918 buckets. I find the buckets add to the driving event and also find them very comfy,, for me but, as has been said, do try all the seats out, if you can which can be tricky.

If you do try and have a sit before you buy, bear in mind theres a few models including certain boxsters and caymans which have the buckets. I tried the folding buckets in a boxster spyder for example.

this really....

If you have a need to be any comfier than the buckets provide, then the GT3 isn't the car you seek is it?
I have LWBs in my 981 Spyder, its a weekend car and the seats provide a large percentage of the event...

For the record the 981 Spyder base price of a rather remarkably low £60k in 2015 INCLUDED p3 folding buckets as standard. I specced them with much needed (for a cab) heaters in my Carrara white car and they are indeed an excellent seat.

Interesting to note the option of heated bucket seats was discontinued in the 718 Spyder which is rather a drawback in a cab.
