yeah, I did a thing... registered on Copart on Monday to help a friend get a certain Panamera but his bid wasn't strong enough.

Started scrolling the auction lists for that day and found this 2019 420d M Sport.

Ended up winning the auction for £7200, after buyers fees and delivery the total came up to £8200.

It looks to me it will be an easy fix, bought a steering wheel for £370, missing interior trims for £60 and Idrive 6 infotainment system for £860, coded to the car's VIN.

Currently waiting for it to be delivered.

Watch this space as this has potential to be somewhat of a bargain, or an expensive lesson .hehe

Hopefully arrives in one piece!!

Love these threads. be good to see how you get on here and the costs.

Thanks, might need it!

Did you get any if them delivered? How long did it take?

Also, I’m aware they move cars around with a forklift, did yours have any undercarriage damage as a result?

Yes Cat N, HPI check mentions the Insurance company decided not to repair.

You're a brave soldier I reckon!

What colour is it, Tanzanite Blue or Black?

Wishing you all the best with it. thumbup

I did - usually delivered in around 5 days. Undercarriage all good, the forks just go on the jacking points, some minor scuffing to one, but nothing worrying.

Love a 4 Series, so will watch with interest. At face value it just looks like the iDrive screen, dashboard trim, centre console trim and steering wheel are missing, with adjacent components hanging off. Not a huge amount of work or cost, I would have thought but, of course, there may be more issues that aren't apparent from the photos.

ETA:
Some great options on that car - looks pretty well specced!

My concern would be what has been cut in terms of the wiring. Any idea?

The delivery driver told me it starts on the button and goes in and out of gear fine. Promising!

Yes looks like they have cut the wires to the steering quib (behind the steering wheel, presumably to neutralize the airbag) . These are the wires for the stalks, steering wheel controls / heating and airbag. The plug is not in the photos so I sourced a complete front loom for F32 on ebay for 14 quid. Worst case I'll replace the entire loom, best case will remove the plugs w/pigtails off the spare loom and splice them with crimp butt connectors.

There is a chance they have also hacked the plugs for the idrive system, but we'll see!

The forks go wherever they go. Never seen a fork driver take the faintest pause to try and align forks with jacking points.

At least with something as long as a 4 series the chances he’ll have come in from behind are minimal (oo-er) so the arms will be less likely to get scudded.

I would recommend swapping out the harnesses before splicing, even though it may mean dash disassembly. Anything risking varying the resistance on canbus is asking for a headache.

Hopefully they've not cut the fibre optic cable between the headunit and amplifier unit in the boot!

Well, here it is!

Car starts and drives forward/reverse but has a broken tie rod on the left wheel.

Original interior trim was in the boot.

Some Idrive connections were cut, but not the fibre optic ones.

Engine is silky smooth.

No body dents or noticeable marks, the interior is good, battery OK, 2 keys.

Nice!
