Anyone know what the point of this wiper arrangement is? I think it's just an attempt to be different but something tells me there might be a practical reason which I can't see.

Yep, presumably because the left-hand side of the scuttle where the mechanism would go is full of some fancy induction/exhaust bit? Perhaps a turbo mini and they've routed the pipework over that side?

Bit difficult to find out as they're in Japan

Looks like it's to keep the wiper blades vertical, maybe just a styling thing?

I've also seen it on Abarth 600s - in competition. Greater swept area of screen/greater swept area directly in front of driver?
