Chap in the Porsche section needa a bit of help to make the right decision.

Personally, don't know why anyone would buy a Porsche at all. You either want a fast exciting car or you don't. If you do, you buy a TVR, if you don't then you buy a nice boring, little run around. IMO.
TVRs are:
Faster. (By far). (Unless you've got over 100k to spend, even then is a Porsche faster?
Better looking. (By far). Porsches just do nothing for me visually. VW Beetle init?
Sound better. (By far).
Better interiors. (By far).
Makes every trip exciting.
The only thing you could say about a Porsche is...
Better handling. (Debatable. With something as powerful as a TVR it is not surprising it is easier to get the back out. Especially in the wet).
Better build quality. (Modern TVRs are pretty good IMO).

Having been to the 'Driven' Boxster/Tamora show, let me say that personally I wouldn't buy either. Therefore I'm (fairly) neutral. The Boxster was very nice and far ahead of any Eurobox - but it was still a production line machine. Just that, a machine. By contrast the Tamora had soul.
And before anyone wants to define 'soul' as meaning 'unreliable', remember which one broke down on the day...

Ignoring the other questions, IMHO there's nothing wrong with your car, but, how much did it cost ?

You have a point with this. Bang for your buck nothing goes like a TVR for the money...or at least...the purchase price. Oh OK Caterfields etc but I'm talking about daily driver cars not thinly disguised race cars.

ahhh am I responding to sterotypes? Maybe, but long gone are the days that Porcas are only owned by yuppies and the middleaged. And you will also say that long gone are the days of shite build quality at TVR.

If a 964RS hasn't got character then Vincent McJones is a vastly more accomplished thespian than Larry Olivier ever was.
This infernal TVR/Porsche debate; buy the best of both then comment objectively, if you can. If you feel even the slightest twinge of pride or complex then shuddupayaface.
Look: the Cerbera and Tuscans set my pants well and truly ablaze - I need them desperately.
There is no way on God's green that I would have gone from a rip snorting, de-catted 4.5 Cerb to my current transport from Stuttgart if the visceral intensity could not have been replicated or improved.
Yes, going from a Cerb 4.5 to a GT3 would have been no substitute for me, at the time.
Then again, going from a 964 or 993RS to a less hell raising Tiv would have been similarly 'underwhelming' (relatively speaking, of course).
I think my point is that the Tuscan S is a wonderful creation; the owners are priviliged souls who should not feel the need to sully themselves by denegrating marques of similar virtue or vast pedigree.

A late 80s 911 Carrera 3.2 in reasonable condition (excellent fun but not as quick as a Tiv), a couple of 944s, several 924s...
There's not a lot of comparison though. They're quite different cars. Not just price-wise.
Couldn't agree more. Too many trips as a passenger to Le Mans in Porkers made me decide I needed something a bit more sporty than my Jeep. The problem was, what to choose. I like Porkers, always have, so the choice was 993 or 996. 993's are quick but very basic and 996's are too expensive and (some may say) not a real 911 (asbestos coat on). So what else? Noble? M3? Ferrari?

You could have an early 80s 911 Turbo with as much Brut 33 as any Tiv or, like I did (twice), you could buy the eminently track wieldy 928S/S2 or S4 for between £8-£15k. Awesome beasts with a seismic soundtrack, every one. Originally costing up to £60 or £70k and quite indestructible, these are one of the most underrated performance car bargains of all time. Contemporary Astons are scandalous rip offs by comparison.
Or maybe a 968 or the runt of the pack but no less worthy, a 924 Carrera GT or 944 Turbo. Real blasts and quick like scalded felines and reflexes to match.
Porsche are not the most profitable car company for nothing. They make excellently engineered, fast and stylish cars, and are unfortunate in being saddled with a "yuppie/nouveau riche/aspirational car" image. If you need a daily driver with some fun built in, a Porsche is probably a good move - the Boxster is amazing value for money, even if the interior is dull, it goes smartly, and will certainly retain it's value. The rest are a bit expensive, especially if yoou don't want an old shape - the tweaks and shape changes are almost as bewidering as TVR!!
If you have a daily driver, and want your fun to be outrageous, insane, with cartoon-like speeds and silly grin factor by the bucket load, it has to be a TVR. Is that a balanced view?

I'd agree with that. The Porsche attracts much more negative attitudes from people who can't hope to ever own cars of this kind. If you want people to like you, get a TVR.
BTW, Ben, I know I've praised you before about this but I don't care - I'm going to do it again!
I LURVE your Chimp - that conversion is stunning; have you not thought about Griff alloys intead of the basic Chimp 4.0 ones? My all too brief dalliance with a 450 sported said feature and it really worked well - on yours - bleedin' 'arry - it'd be stunning, like!

I do love 911s and Ferraris but i would have to take the Tuscan. Its the bangs for your bucks. Fantastic! Unless you have won the lottery. But if i did the first place i would be skipping to would be TVR for a Cerbera Speed 12, Cerbera 4.5 RR, Tuscan. I would have the lot before i went knocking on Astons or Lamborghinis/ Ferraris door.
