Having read the latest issue of 911&PW it struck me how many new tuning companies are popping up marketing extreme versions of Porsche models.

I have actually never seen any of these models on the road, and whilst I live in Lincolnshire where most people drive carrots, I have never seen one anywhere.

Do you often see them in that there London where the streets are paved with gold, or do they all get shipped to Dubai??

I live in N London and rarely see any tuned Porkers. Unless that is, they have had surgery under the skin. I did though recently see a Techart 997 and a Gemballa GT750 Evo Cayenne!

Only ever seen a gemballa Cayenne and I work in Canary Wharf so see a fair number of porkers go by.

I suspect most people don't bother with more than an AMD chip upgrade for their turbo.

Live in Canary Wharf and work in the City - never seen any tuned Porkers. It's nice when you see an old one though (old around here is 993 and below!) - 996s are ten a penny.

I don't normally see anything but strangely today I saw a beast on the back of a truck. It was a Yellow 993 with a huge (I think GT2 style) spoiler and yellow rims with some huge callipers! I doubt very much whether it was a GT2 as they are ultra rare (especially in Australia!) but it did brighten up the day!!

Yep, Simon, they do indeed all get shipped to Dubai.

I saw 3 Gemballa Cayennes in one day last week...

It must be hard work trying to show off out there!

There are lots of cars that have had either a chip or chip and exhaust, as that gains a fair bit of extra power for relatively small cost.

By contrast there are very few cars that have gone for serious tuning, as to do it properly costs a lot of money and can lead to a lot of downsides, such as making the car potentially harder to sell and certainly invalidating the warranty etc.

My father in law had a Ruf BTR conversion to his 993 C4 and only the eagle eyed would have noticed. Narrow body-turbo spoiler. Oh and it has Ruf calipers.

Visual 'tuning' is more common e.g. 996s with GT3 'aerokits' and 993s with rear tails like the RS / clubsport variants.

As to engine tuning, most of the modern stuff involves remapping turbo engines with or without larger turbos - not a lot to see unless you get intimate with the engine.

I've had a large supercharger bolted onto my 993... however it's only hugely conspicuous when you open the engine cover - the car is completely standard from the outside.

Perhaps most 911 owners seek more power without advertising the fact?? Though it has to be said that most enthusiasts I know like a bit of extra noise
