Tuned Porsches
Discussion
Having read the latest issue of 911&PW it struck me how many new tuning companies are popping up marketing extreme versions of Porsche models.
I have actually never seen any of these models on the road, and whilst I live in Lincolnshire where most people drive carrots, I have never seen one anywhere.
Do you often see them in that there London where the streets are paved with gold, or do they all get shipped to Dubai??

I don't normally see anything but strangely today I saw a beast on the back of a truck. It was a Yellow 993 with a huge (I think GT2 style) spoiler and yellow rims with some huge callipers! I doubt very much whether it was a GT2 as they are ultra rare (especially in Australia!) but it did brighten up the day!!
There are lots of cars that have had either a chip or chip and exhaust, as that gains a fair bit of extra power for relatively small cost.
By contrast there are very few cars that have gone for serious tuning, as to do it properly costs a lot of money and can lead to a lot of downsides, such as making the car potentially harder to sell and certainly invalidating the warranty etc.

Visual 'tuning' is more common e.g. 996s with GT3 'aerokits' and 993s with rear tails like the RS / clubsport variants.
As to engine tuning, most of the modern stuff involves remapping turbo engines with or without larger turbos - not a lot to see unless you get intimate with the engine.
I've had a large supercharger bolted onto my 993... however it's only hugely conspicuous when you open the engine cover - the car is completely standard from the outside.
Perhaps most 911 owners seek more power without advertising the fact?? Though it has to be said that most enthusiasts I know like a bit of extra noise
