Hi All.

Sorry to keep harping about inspections etc. Have taken the plunge and am getting 111 point inspection this afternoon. I would expect it will throw up allsorts as there paid to find issues.

Question is, anyone any guide as to what i should live with, and what i should walk away from apart from obvious such as knackered engines in the pipeline.

Also I have read all the pasts posts here on warrenty, cant help feeling for 750 its peach of mind having come from an AUdi TT and and all the associated issues.

Really greatful for any comments. Just hoping nothing bad come up and I can drive her away tonight!

Lots of obvious things, but I'd pay attention to are the brake disks and pads. 996's seem to go through them or rust away at a fantastic rate. Porsche seems to think its ok to charge around 1K to replace the rear disks and pads for some reason, which is frankly ridiculous.

Check for interior trim rattles too, can become very annoying over time.

if you want the warranty you may not be able to "live with" much. Porsche will undoubtedly insist that any failures on their inspection are rectified prior to issuing the warranty. they would be barking otherwise.
their expectation is that they would do the work for you. however, you have paid for the inspection and there is nothing to stop you getting any required work done at an Indie....except that if you do, Porsche may well insist on another inspection (and fee) to ensure work is done to their satisfaction, prior to issuing a warranty.
sorry, that probably hasnt helped much has it?

I'm assuming this is an OPC inspection. In all honestly (and speaking from experience) the inspection is rubbish. They can't check for really serious issues such as engine and gearbox wear. They simply check for obvious problems and nothing more so don't rely on it.

There is only one reason for doing an OPC inspection; you need to get it done in order to be allowed to buy a warranty. The warranty is really good and can be relied upon apart from wear and tear items. I got an inspection only because I wanted the warranty.

Had this done as a pre-requisite to buying my 993C4S recently - a 1998R car with 36000 miles. View was that I'd negotiate any required fixes with the seller. Passed the inspection with nothing required. At all. Warranty was bought and applied with no issues... I'd seen a lot of 993s so I knew this one stood out as having been looked after but I was still surprised as I imagined the OPC would be tempted to contrive the odd issue here and there but nope - nowt needed...

Thanks for the replys guys. Effectively im getting the check for the warrenty, which im viewing as a gearbox and engine warranty.

I was amazed when asked about service history. they dont check this as part of the check, not bothered as car from main jag dealer, but strange even so??

Surely it's in the interest of the OPC to get the car under warranty as Porsche GB are picking up the tab for any fixes, not the OPC.

40. 20 for the gun, 20 for the torque wrench.

Warranty does not cover 'wear and tear' items anyway (such as discs etc) - so even if they are picked up in the pre-inspection (which mine were) they still allow you to have the warranty. The comment about the inspection being 'rubbish' is unfair - my inspection picked up 10 or so things which were 'advisory' to get the vehicle in 'Approved User Car' status but didn't stop the warranty going on. This included details such as 'scratch here', 'spare fuse' missing there - so IMO, the inspection was not just a quick look..

Scatches, missing fuses and the like are not costly to put right and not my idea of a comprehsive inspection. The point that I was making is these cosmetic things are all very well but they can't tell you if your engine has been abused. Putting the car on a rolling road or an OBD Scan will tell you more about whats under the surface whilst the OPC Inspection will tell you only about whats on the surface. Hence why you either get a proper inspection or you get an OPC one along with a warranty to cover what they would have missed.
