Went to a Ferrari dealer for a look at 360s recently

Thought I'd go offical so that the car will have been treated properly and I would have some combeack/proper warranty etc.

They were very accomodating (apart from jokes about ar5e engined german slot cars ) and allowed my to drive a 360 manual.

What amazed me was that the salesman got in it, fired it up, on a stone cold engine, and then proceeded to bounce it off the limiter repeatedly in order to "warm it up."

WTF???

Needless to say I won't be buying that one.

That's not a good start! Where abouts was this? And what sort of 360 are you looking for?

What did you think of the 360?
I am thinking of chopping in my 996TT for a 360 when the warmer weather comes next year.

Well, I can't really flame them on here can I?

Suffice to say you have heard of them........

360 was gorgeous. Am worried about how robust the warranty will be....

As a rule, before ANY roadtest, or demonstration, we warm all of our cars up for at least 10 minutes before the customer arrives.

That way, when the numpties that don't know anything about engines arrive and rev the car up at start, they cause minimal damage.

And I always drive the car first, ensuring everthing is ok before I let anyone loose.

It just doesn't pay to do it any other way.

I don't know how close "boucing off the limiter" was to actually bouncing off the limiter but (within reason) because the engine is under no load, it's not actually going to do much damage - if any. Its a different matter if your wheelspinning at 8K plus with a cold engine.

Let's be clear. He fired up a stone cold engine, then immediately drove off and HAMMERED it in first, second and third. Well over 100mph 15 seconds after he started it.

I wouldn't treat a hire car like that.

I was really shocked.

It's a matter of wear and tear. A performance car will still 'work' if driven hard or close to the limit without being allowed to warm up, but you increase the likelihood of engine/parts failure later on. A simple rule of thumb is to allow 10 mins for the oil etc to get to temp before giving it some welly.

No, it wasn't. I did say "blimey, don't you warm them up gently??"

"Don't bother."

Yeah I'll bet, cos when it goes bang you won't have to pay for it.

Suprised you didn't go for the F1 option though, the money you could have saved on bigger shoes and seat cushions!!!
