I recently bought a 1992 944S2, and the clutch pedal is pretty damn heavy, apparently the clutch was changed 25k ago (the car has 101k now) The clutch never slips,(I tried everything to get it to slip when testing the car) and it changes gear smoothly.
The car has done very little mileage in the last couple of years- about 300, could this be a factor? I was stuck in rush hour traffic today, and the constant dipping of the clutch is going to give me a leg like Daley Thompson Any ideas?

Its fairly normal, the clutch is heavy relative to more modern cars. If you think a 944S2 is heavy try a 964. You will get used to it fairly quickly and will only notice it in a traffic jam, it may well loosen up a little with use.

i would rate the feel of the S2 clutch as "firm" rather than heavy. but really it depends what has gone before as to what you consider "normal". Its probably best to get it checked at an Indie, since they will know what it should feel like. My 968 came with a newly fitted clutch when I bought it. I drove it around for 9 months assuming it was just meant to be that heavy. not until i took it for a service and the indie commented on my "horrible clutch" did I realise it WASNT meant to be that way. Unfortunately the diagnostic process was such that a new clutch was inevitable (a much easier job on the 968 than the 944 I'm afraid). the new one was much much better.
If you have any fellow PHers in your area why not ask if you caN sit in the cockpit and do a few dips? You'll soon know if yours is right or not.

Hi John, I've just bought an S2 as well !!

You may find the clutch a bit stiff, but not that stiff. I find mine to be ok, but my son finds it a bit hard.

the only way you will know is to drive some others, or let someone drive yours.

I notice on your profile a 944,is that the car ? it seems to have the early wheels on it, did they fit them on some models ?

Spotted it now, that was the lux!!!!!!!

Looking through my 944 book, (does not cover the S2 only in bits) the book shows a preload spring fitted on the clutch pedal. this preload helps reduce the pressure required with your foot!

I'm not sure if the S2 has this on the pedal, but if it does it might just be that it needs adjustment.

Worth finding out eh !!

Cheers for the advice, folks It seems a bit heavier in comparison to my old '84 944,but I think it just taking a bit of getting used to.

I'm actually suprised at the different feel of the two cars, the 944 felt a lot lighter and more 'chuckable',while the S2 feels slightly less nimble, but with a heck of a lot more grunt
