I'm considering replacing my CDR 32 with one of the Becker nav units. Is this as simple as plugging in and installing the gps antenna, or are there other connections? Looks like there is a connection to the reverse switch and speedo on the nav units. Are those already connected to CDR 32? Car is an '01 TT with 6 CD changer and DSP amplifier.

I replaced the CDR 23 in my GT3 with a Becker satnav unit (TrafficPro). Had a few problems but all solved in the end. More info here.

Had the 7945 fitted to my 996 along with a Silverstone interchanger all tied together with previously installed Porsche wiring.

See link for where I bought the equipment and they also provided the fitting service. Guy came and fitted it at home. I also did soom Google research to find the best prices and then got Brooklands to match. Total cost was just over £1100.

The 7945 is down to £800 now and the Silverstone about £175.

Also take a look at this link. The 7944 looks a more colourful unit....if that floats your boat.

this thread has arrived in good time, I just bought a becker hi-speed unit (pretty cheap) to go in my 11/03 mk2 GT3, just wondering if I will have any wiring issues.

maybe I should get a pro to install?

be carefull re the most technology
03 cars use a CDR 32 and use most fibre optic cables
02 cars have a CDR 22, which from memeory The Becker Pro sat nav is based on
Best point of contact would be Sempal, the Uk becker agents

Think you need to do something to a wire going into the aircon! Sorry I don't have a more specific link but have a search on here too as I think there may be other info on this forum. Otherwise try renntech.

Dunno if many 'pros' will know about these issues unless they've worked on late 911s before.

I read on renntech that MkII GT3 don't have MOST (fibre optic) connection into the standard fit CDR23.

Porsche did this to save weight so the story goes.

How can you visably establish if your CDR23/Speakers are MOST cabled or not?

Pretty certain that is incorrect as one of the guys on here or titanic changed the head in their GT3 and had probs with their aircon after hooking it up until they did the mod.

I don't think the GT3 has the changer wiring present, nor amp, nor rear speakers though?

As I said earlier in the thread I stuck a Becker trafficPro in my Mk2 GT3 and got the aircon working normally ... full instructions are on my website linked in above post. There's no fibreoptic connection as such, but it does communicate with the CANBUS and you need to disable that connection.

That's good news.

I've got my eye on the new Becker Cascade. The VDO Dayton MS 4400 also looks like a contender. Both these headunits can interface with an iPod via Dension iceLink.

CD, Radio, Bluetooth handsfree, Sat Nav and iPod without canabalising the interior or adding too much weight. ...then I'll be happy!

The cascade has been delayed until the end of January - Becker do a dedicated iPod interface which works with most of their current lineup and will include the Cascade.

We have fitted plenty of 7945s into Porkas and the like due to their all in one lightweightness (although I also run one in my X3 and that hasn't ever been on a diet!

Cheers
