Try and avail yourself of a copy of GT Purely Porsche from your news agent.

There is a supplier in there (name escapes me, sorry) that supplies direct drop in replacement speakers.

I must agree on the sound quality though - ex missus had a Boxster S, and the sound quality was utterly dire. Thank Christ the engine sounded okay if you gave it some beans.

HTH,
Greg

I don't think it's improved much with the 987 and we've got sound package plus in ours. There is of course the BOSE kit for those that care.

How are you Greg by the way?

Welcome to PH, Steven.

There was a short thread on upgrading the hi-fi in a 996 series 911, here: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=228293&f=48&h=0

The chap from Prestige Audio contributed, it might be worth calling them for a quote.

I've also seen that advert for the drop-in replacement speakers, and I also can't remember the name of the advertiser

The 'drop in' replacement speakers are made by Morel, not bad, but not great VFM IMHO.

The main problem with just changing the speakers is that almost all aftermarket speakers are designed to run in systems with a subwoofer, and are just designed to play mid and high very well with very little emphasis on bass, so chaging the speakers alone often makes the sound very 'tinny'.

The best solution for a Boxter is replacment speakers and a subwoofer in the passenger footwell - the size of the enclosure goverened by how much space the client is prepared to sacrifice in the search for sound! We did a car with a 10" sub in 0.5 cu.ft fibreglass enclosure and it sounded fapping awesome, but we also did a 996 cab with a 6" sub in about 0.15 cu.ft and that worked amazingly well for such a small enclosure.

HTH

Cheers
