What kind of things might I need to improve. I'm normally a stickler for standard cars but it seems that Porsche might well create some exhaust, intake or other replacement parts that get around false restrictions to appease the tree huggers during production.

Don't really want to tit around with it straight away -- or possibly ever -- just wondering if there's anything worthwhile* I might think about doing.

*worthwhile doesn't mean turning it into something that'll pee everyone off within three miles through a stupidly loud exhaust -- after all I need to get from A to B without my ears bleeding.

What restrictions? The airbox, cats and exhaust are pretty much that way compared to some other cars. A chip should see close to 500bhp though!

The turbos 'muffles' the sound, so going for something like a Tubi, Fabspeed etc might improve the sound a little bit.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the car restrictions wise and it seemed quick enough on the test drive, just interested in things that the collective think would be worthwhile. Someone's already spoken about an aluminium gear linkage part to replace the plastic one so that's on the list.

I definitely don't want a loud exhaust for the sake of it, but if the sandalists had made Herr Porsche fit some overly restrictive exhaust to appease the lentil eating speed nazis I'd like to know if there's an alternative that'll improve stuff like torque and MPG without making it much louder.

Perhaps it's just perfect right out of the box, and that's superb if it is

If I understand you correctly, you are coming from a BMW which came from the factory with restrictions to limit the speed to 150 and you were wondering if Porsche did the same and if so, what can be done to remove the restrictions?

The good news is that Porsche don't restrict the cars and so nothing needs to be done in that respect. However, you can make some further 'improvements' if you wish. For example, a different exhaust will improve the sound and give you a few more bhp or you can get loads more bhp with a different chip.

Personally, I haven't made any performance mods to my 996tt but I have changed the front bumper for a GT2 one (see the pic in my profile) which I feel looks much better and I have fitted a short-shift kit to reduce the travel between gear changes.
