Hi Guys,

I am looking for a GT3 Half cage (rear only), preferably the OEM Techquipment one in brushed ally as I intend to track the car in 2006, I have just got a Schroth harness and need something to mount the shoulder belts. I thought that a half cage would be the safest option, but would also be interested to hear of any other options, I have searched the Rennlist and Brey Krause do a bar, but at $600, I might as well stump up the extra and get a roll bar.

Is it possible to attach the shoulder belts to the rear seat belt mounting point using an eyelet bolt and heavy duty carabiner (spelling)? Or would not having rollover protection when seated upright due to the harness be silly. You thoughts would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Stuart

There was one for sale in the Porsche Post 2/3 months ago. If you are a PCGB member then it might be worth looking at the back issue and seeing whether it was sold. Alternatively get one made bespoke. I went to Caged www.therollcagepeople.com in Wiltshire and had a half cage with harness bar built and fitted for about £700 . It uses the standard GT3 mounting holes, so no drilling required and is a far more robust, much nicer and far more cost effective solution than the Tecquipment one.

As for fitting the harness to the existing seat belt point in the rear I think the answer would be no. The fitting instructions suggest that once it goes between the seat holes it should have a very shallow angle between that point and the point at which it is anchored. Therefore it's a cage or alternatively some new welded in eye holes bolts on the rear bulkhead.

BTW Were you the guy that beat me to the harness in Hove earlier in the week??

Hi Paul,

thanks for the reply, the OEM techquipment one will cost €995, thats about £700 from Carnewal, it looks pretty good in brushed ally and is OEM. What finish does yours have?

and Sorry I did beat you to the Hove harness earlier this week. I am a PCCB member, not sure I have kept the PP that has the cage in it, can you remember what issue it was, or better still have you still got the details?

Cheers

Glad you won the harness, it was a real bargain. I wanted it for the passenger side but it was a driver side version and so your win saved me from trying to botch it up to fit the passenger seat. Don't forget to get the mounting bar for underneath the seat. OPC do them at reasonable prices.

As for the Tecquipment cage I too looked at Gerts site in Belgium. However, the base price is £700 then add Belgium VAT at 20%, shipping at over £100 and fitting costs of about £300(not a job worth tackling alone as it's a bloody tight squeeze) then the bill comes to over £1250. Also the Caged item(They had previously fitted one to my 968CS) is in black(you can choose your colour) powder coated heavy duty steel and makes the nice shiney OPC item look a bit Max Power-ish(IMHO). I can send some pics if you want to see what I mean. Just send me an email.

Sorry cannot remember the date of the Porsche Post Magazine, It was definitely between August and November of this year.

Steve

Steve,

thanks, I didn't appreciate the tax and xtra's.

I have just sent you an email, would love to see some pics. I will order the anti-sub bar via Hatfield or JZ, I need to get an alignment check for a base starting point and for any alterations. I'll see what bar Steve recommends too.

I was planning to use Bedford (lots of run-off) as I know the track fairly well, what track(s) do you use? Goldtrack have a day at bedford in April.

Glad you didn't really want the harness

Email gert at Carnewal as most of the the web prices are discounted to UK buyers. Sometimes far greater than the tax added back on (depending on the item). Worth a try.
