Had my 3200 cut out on me a few times today, coming up to islands, drop down a gear and then the revs just died away and car stalled. It was ok if I popped it in neutral and coasted to a halt and then started off.

Anybody had this? Got any thoughts what it might be?

Many thanks.

I assume you have a Manual gearbox 3200GT... the reason I ask is that I am having similar problems in my MK3 Golf GTI. One guy has mentioned cleaning my Throttle Boddies.. not sure if it could be a similar problem in your masser.. Gd luck

Not much help I know but I had exactly the same thing happen some months ago and as I use it for commuting into London in the rush hour it was no joke especially as the wait for all of the warning light to extinguish befor re starting seemed to make every "white van man" want to punch me, in my case I carried on regardless for two days and it cleared itself and never returned, I hope you have the same good fortune.

The engine stalling could just be the engine ecu needs the throttle position resetting - this is a very easy procedure. There is another thread about this on this site about to set up the throttle - i can't remember at present, sorry.

The engine also suffers air leaks which can result installing but normally the idle is very erratic

1) Reset the mechanical zero position
- Put gear lever in neutral
- Switch on ignition (to MAR position) but do NOT start the engine
- Do not touch the throttle pedal for 2 minutes
- Switch off ignition

2) Reset the mechanical Full Throttle position
- Put gear lever in neutral
- Switch on ignition (to MAR position) but do NOT start the engine
- Fully depress throttle pedal and hold for 5 seconds
- Release throttle pedal completely
- Switch off ignition

The full text does not specify waiting until the various warning lights have extinguished themselves after switching on ignition, but I do not depress throttle (item 2) or start timing until they have.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

I tried the reset procedure a couple of times but unfortunately it is still doing it.

I think I will have to get the dealer to look at it.

Thanks again for the help.

Update - in case anyone has a similar problem.

It was a dirty fuel filter, cheap to replace and car is back to normal.

I have been a tighta**e and running it low on fuel which is not recommended apparently.
