The rear of my maserati is getting a bit lively in the wet. Tread depth is 3-4mm. when would you guys change the tyres?

I take it you've checked pressures already?

How long have you had the maser (sorry can't remember!) sure its not a case of just getting used to it and giving it a bit more welly? I'd have thought 3-4mm is fine.

Ive had this problem last year but with the front.
My Dealer stated that 4mm was more than enough for the car to be handling and I was told its just a matter of getting used to the 3200 etc etc etc .....

Replaced the Front Tyres with New Michelin's and the the extra grip was brilliant.
I had much more confidence in the car.

Would not have the 3200 on less than 5mm personally.

Hope this helps.

But don't tyres come with 7mm from new - so you'd only use 2mm of tread before changing them?

Mine came with 4mm and I personally felt that was not providing enough grip.
The front felt more planted after new tyres.

The Geometry Setup a few months later also gave the car an even more improved stance.

They are 8mm new. I looked up a tyre site who stated that at 3mm in the wet it added 16% to the stopping distance over a new tyre.

Anyway changed them today.

thanks

Legal limit is 1.6mm I think.

I used Black Circle, reasonable price but the first outlet I chose couldnt fit anything below 50 profile so they suggested another. When I got there, they had to take the wheels/tyres to ATS round the corner because they didnt have the "love beads" to do the job.
Difficult to get 35 profile on because they dont flex very well.
