clarkson - no limits

Since it is unlikely to be a region problem, as it is a region 2 disc and a UK spec PS2 isnt it? If it isn't then I may have a suggestion.
yup region 2 all round - dodgy DVD then I'd say. The PS2 has always played all the other discs from the little shop up the road, and even had a crack at an American one too (no colour was the loss)
Byron I'll have a go when I get a replacement (though due to copyright issues I obvioulsy WONT have a go. And when I've finished NOT having a go I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT send you an email telling you where it is).

you're not reading between the lines hard enough Byron!...
Anyway, bought it from Costco in Reading - £15ish. I expect as it's Xmas it wont be the hardest thing to find in WHSmith, Woolworth, Boots, HMV, Virgin... all those places I try to avoid as Yuletide looms. Humbug. As Reading probably isnt too near you (from your profile).. try searching www.amazon.co.uk for 'clarkson' with 'DVD' selected.

Just in case you were interested, there is a chance that your PS2 is playing your Region 1 DVD OK - the problem may be with your TV not being able to do NTSC to PAL conversion properly. This often leads to black and White images.
The other possibility is that you need to use an RGB SCART lead in order to play Region 1 discs if the PS2 supports that.
I am sure you are not interested, but there it is, just in case you are
