Hi, you won't know me on this board as a regular contributor although I follow the banter with some interest !

I recently bought a 1999/V Cerbera Speed Six, 30K miles, full & complete TVR history up to the current mileage. The vehicle was NOT bought from a TVR franchised dealer.

Since buying the car, I've visited Pistonheads on a regular basis and have been pretty shocked to read some of the horror stories surrounding Speed Sixes. With regard to my own car I was fairly satisfied that it was fit & healthy. However, after a short motorway run today the engine is displaying excessive top-end noise which is clearly camshaft and/or valve-gear related (although I am fairly certain it is camshaft) and which wasn't there this time yesterday. I've got the vehicle booked in with my local TVR dealer early next week but for now have a couple of questions.

Firstly, am I to expect the worse and prepare myself for the engine going back to the factory for a top-end overhaul or is this a problem my main dealer can fix at their end. Secondly, what are my chances of a goodwill warranty fix bearing in mind my vehicle is 3 years old now, albeit with a full & impeccable TVR history.

Many thanks, Meridian

I'd start with a history check from your main TVR dealer. They will just need your chassis number. This will be a good start point to understand how long the engine has been running issue free.

I have head that TVR can lean forward on rebuild costs if the car has been maintained within their delaer network. Let me know how you get on.

How much did you pay for the car if you don't mind me asking?

MV have now diagnosed follower/camshaft problem necessitating top-end rebuild at factory. Hope to get the vehicle back mid to late January (fingers crossed). Vehicle is 3 years and 3 months old and initial response via MV is that rebuild costs are to be covered by myself. However, they do not rule out the possibility of a goodwill contribution from the factory but that is a matter for myself to take up with them directly and so we'll have to wait and see.
