what do you think about the handling of the chimaeras when you compare them with other sports cars?

Slow into the corner, fast out of the corner - that's the approach.

Chimaera/Griffith handling is pretty good, but not in the same league as the newer TVRs and Porsche/Ferrari. My Audi A6 corners as fast as my Chimaera if the road is anything other than completely dry. We still love them though!

Changing the springs/shocks for aftermarket units such as Nitron is supposed to make things much better though - do a search through the archives for info.

Yep .. if you want to make it fast into, faster out you've got to address the suspension, and a set of springs and dampers is pretty much the only way to do it asuming you've already had a 4 wheel alignment done.

iirc i was once told by an M3 Coupe owner on a track day that he was impressed at how well my chimaera gripped and went round the corners. and that was with Avons all round

i'm not going to change the suspension as I'm more than happy with the way it corners... the back steps out whenever i want!

No traction control--could not hold a WRX on bends. Big disadvantage.

Ah yes. I have a Chimaera and a Boxster S. I drive both regularly.

The Chimaera goes around corners MUCH better than you'd expect it to - given the slow in fast out tales you hear.

But the Boxster S sticks to the road like s**t to a blanket. It sticks so hard, in fact, that once on track and at speed the car is probably a good deal braver and more competent than I am.

In short. The Chimaera does not handle "as well" as the Porsche and by a long way. But what the hell, I say. Did you want it to? Woohoo! Great fun.

The thing is people think TVRs handle terribly because someone like Tiff said so once upon a time. They have a much lower centre of gravity than something like an M3 so the laws of physics mean they stick pretty well as long as your right foot doesn't get twitchy (aka traction control).

EVO/Impreza type cars defy the laws of physics though ...

I was once told that a Chimaera was better on public roads, due to the softer suspention absorbing the bumps but the Griffith with it's firmer suspention is better on the track.
