Time to cure my winter creative doldrums with a new challenge. So I stepped away from the animals and photographed a colleague's amateur rugby match. The Six Nations it was not, I think they won 96-3, so not too much opportunity for images of crunching tackles but still a real subject challenge for me. I really enjoyed this game and found it a tremendous amount of fun to try and get some good images.

So what do you think? Critique and tips for successful sports photography most appreciated as I really enjoyed myself and I'd like to get better at this.

I like the second one. You should title it "thermonuclear wedgie"

Joking aside, the first two look really good to me, sports photography aint my thing but you seem to have done very well.

Yup, first two especially number 2. Excellent. Rugby really lends itself well to B+W IMO. Great shots.

Thanks, I do like number 2, god knows it's got to hurt having your shorts wedged up every throw in . Number 1 is nice and crisp but I have gone and cut his feet off ! Difficult working with a fixed focal length.

You're right in the B&W seems to suit rugby well, I think it adds a bit of what I'd call "gritiness" to the image which kind of backs up playing the game in the colder winter months.

The guys at the club seem very happy with the images, so that's some pressure taken off. Waiting to see if number 1 is used in the local paper for the match report.

No 2, not even a flinch from the Megga-Wedgie.

I like them all,

No. 1 for me, good action and composition. Bit dark in the blacks though; can you lighten them?
