I've got some additional info I want to put on our site. It's only a list really and I don't want it to take up much screen real estate.

What do people think, is ticker tape naff? What about dhtml scrolling text? I'm open to suggestions about what will look best. Oh, and any links to examples/code snippets are appreciated as usual.

Personal opinion? It looks terrible, don't do it.

Of course, there'll be twenty-odd people along soon to disagree and then "out" me as a troll...

Stick it on another page and then add a link to it.

BliarOut: Can you provide a link to something similar to what you're planning?

Nope, or I would just rip the code off

Actually I'm just thinking of something like this....

www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex2/prohtmlticker.htm

DHTML, with a different service (list item) on each transition. I'll use my own CSS to blend it in with the overall look of the site.

Our website uses a ticker type thing:

www.pandi.co.uk/

I can dig out the code for you if you like (if it's not there in Show Source).

edit: Yes, i know there's a . missing from the first headline.

If it's good enough for the bbc it's good enough for everyone else!

I don't think there's anything wrong with them myself, as long as they fit in with the site and don't look like they've been tacked on at random.

agent006: I think the code is indeed in the page, though I haven't looked too closely. I liked that ticker.

BliarOut: I think a ticker can be quite nice if done subtley and integrated well into the site. Take a look at www.hazelgrovehigh.co.uk - we recently did this site in Flash and it incorporates a newsticker.

The code is indeed there

That's exactly what I was looking for Agent, subtle and a very nice use of screen real estate. I was wanting to avoid fake green LED's etc.

Thank you very much indeed.

NB. I've stripped the JS out into two external .js files one for the code and one for the message and timer. Works a treat.
