MOT'ing a TVR in NI

Hi all
Have to get the Chimaera MOT'd soon and have never done it before (Mot'd a TVR I mean, I've never had the luxury of a car that didn't need one every year.)
Any particular things I should be aware of, ie: anything specific to the Chimaera or TVRs that our friends in the DVTA seem to have a particular problem with?
Anyone had theirs through the MOT recently?

The guys have had a number of cars MOT'd over here, with the only problem being the back lit number plate, so what year is your car and what type of plate do you have.
If you do have a problem with this then point out the plate is back lit and open the boot and show the people the lights on inside the boot you can see light shine out from the bottom of the plate recess.
You can of course come out the local TVR Car Club meeting and get more advise.

Thanks for that. I thought that would be a problem, especially on my car (1994 4.0 Chimaera) as the holder for one of the 2 bulbs is broken so I've only 1 bulb. As long as that's the only specific problem they're worried about I'll not panic. The car had an £800 service by Greg Connolly in late November so everything should be fine. Have you had any feedback about the new emmissions tests introduced in March 1st or will that not affect a 1994 car?
Sorry I didn't make it to your meeting last Sunday, I'm looking forward to any runs you might be organising though. I might even summon up the courage to do a track-day sometime!

Yes the runs will be posted here, we are of this Friday to Kerry for the Celtic Gathering so watch the roads for big groups of TVR's.
As for the light being broken Greg should sort you out for a few pounds they are pretty cheap and very easy to fit.
As for emissions well that will not be a problem, you have cats on the car no problems.

The MOT was to effect all paetrol cars after Aug 1992, and all diesels....
But after they have blown up an awful lot of customers diesel engines, they have now back-pedalled after only 2 weeks of testing.
The new tests will olny be carrried out on vehicles made fromm 2001.
This was announced on Tuesday 14th March
So basic petrol emissions of below 3.5%CO and 1200ppm HCC still stands for a car made after 1983.
ANY efi car should pass that with ease

Anyone have any problems with MOT guys not knowing where to jack car up during test, ie. trying to put jack directly under bodywork or on outriggers?

Depends on what center you are taking it to !! Mallusk & Ballymena have plenty of experience
But seriously...just talk to the tester (most of them are more than happy to have a yarn with you when in a TVR!!) and explain the situation to him and ask him to jack it up on the main backbone / crossmembers.
Funnily enough I had four testers the day of my test !! lol

Unfortunately not as much as I should !!!
I can be found in another form of open top transport though...the two wheeled pedal powered version !!
