Anyone here familiar with a Mk1 MR2 and a new(ish) Lupo GTi ? wondering if a new car with 125 bhp gives about that same performance & fun as the (presumably lighter) lesser powered MR2. TEmpted to get one when funds allow & sell my 2 eighties icons. Is Phase 1 of the master plan.,.

I would imagine it would all depend on weight. If they have the same PWR then they should be pretty similar time wise, however they will feel completely different!!! I'd personally go for the MK1 MR2, as long as it was a good one! (You know you can get a SC version from Japan? They were pretty quick. Runs to 60 in 6.5!)

I have driven a Lupo 1.4, and a Polo GTi. And as you know, owned a MK1 T Bar.

Both were quite dull to drive. Very nice on long journeys. Quite, comfortable etc, but no feel to driving them.

If I were going to buy a newish front drive Euro Hatch, I'd go for a 106 GTi.

But then if I were to buy a front drive hatch at all, it would be a MK1/2 Golf GTi, but then IIRC you've had one of those already??

If it were me, I'd keep the AW11.
