Yes, it's that time of year again. Qualifying is done and dusted, and from the looks of things Audi and Porsche are going to wipe the floor with everyone else.

McNish set a stunning 1.45.828 to put the R10 on pole, with the sister car almost two seconds slower. The fastest RS Spyder was just over a tenth slower than the second R10, and four seconds faster than the next non Porsche P2 car.

If the Audi's can run that kind of speed with fewer stops for fuel they're going to be laps ahead of the opposition at the chequered flag, and assuming the RS spyders have reliability to go with the pace their biggest battle will probably be with the Dyson Lolas.

Aston Martin beat the Corvettes to the front of the GT1 grid - I reckon this ought to be the best fight of the race, and down in GT2 the pointy end of the grid is made up of Panoz and Ferrari. The Panozes might do OK, but I expect the Ferraris to break like they always do.

Sadly my plans to spend the whole day watching it live on Speed have been dashed by the need to go to Cincinnati for the day, so thank heavens for TiVo!

Lots of this on Motors TV today so I think I may get a couple of beers and settle down with my headphones on (better sound than my crappy TV!)

Looking forward to the Aston/Vette battle (Come on Aston!)

Haven't seen much of the LMP stuff so will be interested in that lot too.

Should be a good day hopefully and I'm sooo glad that the racing season is back!

The Globecast coverage is being done by John Hindhaugh and the Radio Le Mans crew so is well worth listening to!

Just heard about the Cat in the pitlane and it has nothing to do with Ian Dawson this year.

Are both R10's out?

I know they qualified 1-2 but I've only been watching for about half an hour and they haven't been mentioned yet!
