Looking for a contingency plan in case my mate hasn't got his car fixed and am looking to watch some decent motorsport tomorrow. I'm based in Cambs so Silverstone, Snetterton etc are the sort of areas I can drive to. Only event I've managed to find so far is the bikes at Brands.

Cheers.

I'm actually between Silverstone and Snetterton so Anglesey is a tad too far.
I notice Silverstone have the Britcar racing on - anyone ever been? Whats it like in terms of spectating etc and are there usually plenty of races to keep you occupied whilst the event is on?

Britcar races are on the whole endurance races, short races are around 45 minutes, longer ones 1-2 hours.

According to Autosport, there's also a BARC meeting on the Stowe circuit, free entry. 2 meetings on the same day sounds like a bargain to me!

What race? Britcar on the International or BARC SE on Stowe? I was at Stowe in the morning and wandering around during the Britcar in the afternoon.

Were you in the Silver Golf GTI that spun at the end of the main straight during qualifying?

I was there as my Dad races the Yellow E21 323 BMW and my Brother-in-Law races the Black and Silver Renault 5 Gordini.

I thought it was a cracking race and thoroughly good start to the season.

Excellent racing on Sunday. Weather was a bit grim but, hey, you can't have everything can you!

Cheers Trackside - Cracking piccies of the Old Man and B-i-L.... Unfortunately the Gordini lost boost after a few laps so retired. It was nice to see a little Renualt 5 mixing with the Golfs. Must tell Dad to get the BM tidied up - its looking a little tatty to say the least.

Andre (Severs) is racing at the 24hr 2CV race at Snetterton during Pistonfest, so I'm hoping for a good weekend then as well!

Yes, that was me ! I didn't realise until too late how slow the white Mk1 was going in front of me, so I dove up the inside to avoid him and nearly came a cropper in the armco! Once stationery, the thing wouldn't start. Starter motor stuggled.

I retired from the race after running out of fuel 3 laps from the end. A stupid mis-calculation and a lesson learned the hard way! That was not before having a good battle with the same Mk1 mentioned above and the black Renault 5. It was my first time at Silverstone and I never really got the hang of it. Becketts and Luffield were truely awful and lost me loads of time. I'm well aware of the 'slow in, fast out' principle, but I went steaming in too quickly and fluffed my exit every time, overcome by adreneline and nerves. Much needs to be done with my race craft, but hey, you don't pick these things up overnight.

Overall, I really enjoyed the day! Great pics by the way!

Great - we were all cheering for you when you were desperately trying to restart after the spin. I was suprised that they didnt black flag it as my Dad said he didnt really see you until the last minute and could easily have collected you mid corner.

It was good that it dried up as people were having a tough time in the greasy conditions.

Anyways, all the best for the rest of the season. I'll probably be along to a few more races so will pop over and say hi if you're there....

Lovely Golf by the way - reminds me of my first car.

Here's some on-board video of the race, where the White Mk1 and the Black Renault feature quite pre-dominently!

It clearly illustrates my weakness on the two most important corners. I fully expect the race experts on here to give me a grilling!

The vid ends as I start running out of fuel and spluttering!

Nice bit of footage there, Keith. Some interesting lines being taken by various cars in the first lap or so!

I was watching from Becketts with my brother when your Golf came to a halt. Better luck next time, or better calculating should I say! We really enjoyed the CTCC racing and I'm sure we'll be along to some more rounds. Will come and say hello if we do.
