Hi, I've just sold my 1998 Porsche 911 (996) and having already changed my mind several times(348, Noble M12, Lorus Esprit V8 , it's now a 'cash in hand' reality. However, having lost £5K in 12 months, I intend to wait for a 'good price' rather than rushing in with excitement(The fact that I'll be getting a 'runaround' this week, should help me resist temptation).

I was wondering what prices 348 are selling for these days (ie. not necessarily the original asking prices of loving, loyal owners). I've seen 348's on autotrader for as little as £20K and note that even Verdi have 2 at the moment, one for just over £27K, one for just under £27K. Clearly mileage and number of owners will have an effect, but I'm merely seeking to find out what they have sold for recently....

Oh, and I'm only talking about right hand drive cars!!

Anywhere between £25K - £30K for a good one.

Bit more for a spider if you can find one.

I spent a while looking for a nice 1, it took a little longer as i did not want Red.

Judging from prices i looked at you need to pay around £27k - £30k for a nice one and make sure its had the usual stuff, belts done etc etc.

Good Luck

Hi .. as an unbiased ex-owner who let their mint RHD Spider go for a ludicrously low £29,999 last November! .... here is my take.

We are talking good condition with full history. History is king.

You can get a decent TS (targa) or TB coupe as the last poster said for between £24k to £28k depending on mileage. You may get cheaper but they may not have the condition/history. If you are paying anymore they either need to be absolutely mint on a dealers forecourt with warranty and ultra low mileage, which is not necessarily the big advantage it is sometimes made out to be.

You can take another £3-5k off the price of a RHD if you don't mind LHD. A nice LHD 348 TB for £21k would do me very nicely thanks

Good luck - great great cars.

Repeat of my post of fchat..

I would recommend that you prepare to pay towards the top of the scales mentioned by the guys above, saving a couple of grand up front may mean you don’t end up enjoying the car.

I looked at some cheaper cars which needed a couple of ‘small’ items – one example needed brake discs, a set of tyres and had a cracked front foglamp. No problem until you check the price of parts. That’s 2k gone in an instant. A clutch kit for an early 348 is £800 + labour + vat. Release bearing £400. Wiper arm £300. Windscreen £1500.

What I am getting at is that the difference in asking prices between an OK and very nice example may only be a couple of grand, but the costs to correct can be huge. Get the latest (there were incremental improvements all the time) best condition car you can with history and a recent belt service.

Cars over 50k miles seem tough to move on (a shame as I’m sure there are some good cars around with more miles). If you are worried about depreciation I suggest going for one that will still be under 50k when you intend to sell it on. All IMO of course.

All that said, prices are good for the buyer at the moment. Go for it.

You couldn't exactly miss it when I was selling! It ended up going to one of the mods on F.Cars who still needed to sell his 308, but when I chopped it from £32k to £30k he simply sold a leg or something to buy it

Also worth noting ther are some limited editions, e.g.GTB, GTS and GTC. These demand a premium and you'll be looking upto 35k for a GTB or GTS and around the high 30's for a GTC if you can find one.

Not so much limited editions, as later upgrades. Power up from 300 to 320bhp, suspension improved and afew subtle mods like coloured coded sills and the battery moved to the front for better weight distribution ... but like Kam says there are not so many about. The GTC is the Competizione and is a very rare animal.

A good TS or TB is still a quick car but... get one with a Tubi exhaust already fitted if you can as YOU WILL want one when you hear them, and they cost £2k new.
