MR2 Mk1 wheel refurb

I'm looking to refurb my MK1 MR2 teardrop alloys which are flaking a bit and was wondering about the best DIY approach. Was thinking usual Nitromors followed by a good rub down, then primer, alloy wheel paint and laquer. Any recommendation as to what sort of paints? What makes "alloy wheel paint" such? Just that it's silver or something else? Anyone know a good colour match, particularly for inside the teardrops? Thought I'd try in here rather than the Bodywork forums as more of you people have likely done the same job. Thanks.
