111 check revealed a 'slight sweat' on the RMS.

Now, is there a warning light to let me know when i should top up as it has 'sweat' too much?

One would hope that it should never "sweat" that much that it needs topping up!

I do appreciate that, but unlike a fat bird, it would be hard to tell when the sweat turns into a pour, so just wondered if there was a warning light?

(Its parked on a road, and im pretty sure i would forget to move the car to check if it has leaked at all)

Is this a pre-purchase "sweat" or a pre-warranty "sweat". If it's a pre-warranty sweat then the words get out and clause spring to mind

I would ask for plain english written confirmation if the RMS is or is not covered.

Inspection said it has a sweat, and the Warranty has been issued by porsche

Should i get them to confirm in writing the RMS is covered despite the sweat?

If the warranty has been issued then I would imagine it's covered... I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will post shortly.

As an aside, how can they see the RMS anyway? Is there an inspection cover in the bellhousing?

Just spoke to someone and they said as its noted in the report, it wont be covered in the warranty until its fixed, for £1000 or thereabouts.

Its a sweat at the moment, which will not be noticeable, but got the 'it will only get worse' comment.

Can someone answer whether the majority of 996s have an RMS leak of somesort, and only some go belly up, or that few have an RMS issue, but the ones that do, do go belly up?

Nice cop out by them there

Just watch your oil level and have it replaced at your next routine clutch replacement. The majority of the job cost is labour and as you have everything out that's needed to get to it at a clutch change it only adds a few quid to the overall cost. You'll know if it's getting any worse as the car will start to drip oil.

What's the betting they all have a sweat during the 111 point inspection?

I'm still interested to know how they can see the sweat from the RMS during an inspection though.

The guy mentioned that they will have seen some oil in the gearbox if it was weeping. A weep, apparently, is worse than a sweat.

And yes, i did ask the guy if all 996s have a sweat, and commented that it would be handy as then they would never have to warrant an RMS.

He didnt answer

It had a 48k service 4 months ago, and has only done 3k miles since, and is a tip... so anyone know when my clutch will go next!?

If it's a tip, it doesn't have a clutch does it? Wouldn't worry about the sweat, just keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't get worse.

The previous owner of mine had to have the RMS done before they put the warranty on it, even though it (apparently) didn't need doing.

Only way they would cover it!!!

Can't see how that now they've put the warranty on it, it's not included.

It's a pan-European warranty, is there an OPC central database then? Or does particular dealer not fancy the job.

True... i think it will be worth me going into a different OPC once delivery is taken, and asking to see what is and is not covered 'for my own piece of mind'

Having my RMS done also.

Specialist said typically out of 10 cars - 4 would be dry (of which 2 of them because they've had the rms done already) and the other 6 would be lightly 'sweating' to weeping.

BTW RMS at a specialist should be £350 to £450 + Vat. Think OPC is around £850 to £950 + vat.

HOpe this helps

For your piece of mind RMS failures are VERY rare indeed on tip's. I reckon it's ass covering on their part.

I seriously seriously doubt it's possible to see the RMS on a tip BTW. If you're feeling very cheeky I would ask them to show you the sweat

I've never shown any documentation with any of my warranty claims, so there must be a system. Just can't believe there'd be a note saying "Don't do the RMS on this one fellas".

I just phone my nearest OPC, Guildford, and say I'd need something replaced under warranty.

Maybe call another OPC, give them your reg, and ask if the RMS is covered.

The answer is to avoid letting the warranty expire. Obviously no good to to the vast majority I guess.

Unfortunately it may be - its not on the 111, but it is on the invoice - Not sure what they keep on record but im sure they would keep this on file!

If it gets worse, will take it to an indie and pay the 111 again - probably still cheaper!
