I know they're different beasts but I was just wondering how the Supra TT (not single turbo) compares with the MR2 turbo for performance, handling and sheer driving pleasure.

I know Gazboy stepped up to a Supra from an MR2 turbo.

Just curious I guess. My car is very quick (modified) and I love driving it but I do wonder what a car capable of being tuned easily to 400+ bhp feels like.

You'll find the Supra feels much heavier and you have to coax it around the bends..

But it'll probably feel more powerful in a straight line...

Going by other owners who have done the 'step up' they say the Supra is much more predictable in its handling. With the shorter wheel base of the MR2 and the longer wheels base of the Supra you should find the transition quite easy.
The Supra is more heavier meaning you get more pressure put onto the road and more grip is generated in cornering. It may not be as direct as an MR2 but then this will mean its more stable.
On the UK-spec cars they are setup (in standard form) to have a slight amount of understeer intially on corner turn-in.... this then develops into a nicely balanced car in mid-corner and as you put the power down this easily develops into a bit of oversteer. I find this to be a great setup for 'A' roads and the track.
Not sure what the 'feel' is like for the MR2 but hope this helps.

Just to reiterate what I said in the other post, the Supra can be made to handle brilliantly with the correct selection of parts, geometry and tyres. They are a heavish car (1490kg for a JDM RZ) but not that much heavier than an MR2T ( 200kg?). Mine never ceases to amaze me how well it will grip, but like everything they need to be driven a certain way.

Gazboy - is you Supra still in stock form power wise?

Just like to add one more thing with regards to the Supra... that being it becomes a bit of an animal when you go BPU. The second turbo hit is much more pronounced and you really feel the accelleration. In stock form the Supra TT rev range as you accelerate feels very smooth and can be deceptive as to how fast you are moving. But the acceleration power becomes much more noticable once you've got a boost controller, FCD (if required) and decat. The decat itself allows the turbos to spoool at a quicker rate from low revs. And all this for not much money at all.
Mine has been running 1.2bar for a few years and no probs with the car at all. If you go down that route (or are already there), then the best engine oil is a must to keep everything running smooth.
Probably all the above is something you may already be familiar with, just thought I write it down just incase you weren't. ;-)

Gazboy, I've just looked at your profile and your old MR2 is at about the same state of tune as mine, including Bilsteins all round and -40mm springs. I reckon mine is producing about 280+ bhp at 1.1 bar in all gears with manual boost controller - it certainly feels like it. It could even be more. I recently upgraded the intercooler and fan to a better side mount set-up and this has made a noticable difference to torque at mid-high revs.

However, the thing about the Supra that appeals to me is the fact that it is twin turbo with a straight 6 cylinder engine. That must mean sharp throttle response and good low down torque, which is important to me. I'm hoping that the Apexi Power FC, which I have just bought for MR2 will sharpen things up even more and provide more seamless power delivery. It's good now but I can't wait to drive it when it has been mapped properly.

I will have a look at Supras though - I'm still curious.

Thanks for your replies.
