For me its been essential. Agree in the winter it never gets used but summer driving on the motorway (eg 7 hrs to the south of France) it was a lifesaver. I've even used it when the roof has been off and its baking hot outside.

We don't have air-con in our Chim: next time I would definitely get it. In summer when its hot the roof is off: you don't need it then. In winter when its cold the car warms you up: you don't need it then. But when is drizzling but warm (this happens a lot in a British Summer) the roof has to go on to protect the car (the owner clearly could just get wet) and then the in car temperature soars...that's when the air-con is just wonderful. My other car has the aircon and its a godsend. Next time we change the TVR....the new Tiv will have aircon too.

How much does aircon unit weigh? Does it noticably affect performance? (Pardon the newbie questions.)

Probably no more additional weight than a good curry or a small passenger/set of gold clubs. It's not made of solid gold you know! T/.

With ref to how it works, it is more of a refrigeration unit than air con - there is no temp control at all, the system is either "on" or "off". Still well worth the money though.
