i have cd boost and my, ahem, backed up cds seem to work ok. i use a fujitsu siemens amilo laptop..
interestingly and along the same lines it does seem very sensitive to finger prints etc something i am not used to with my home set-up... quality of the laserthingy i guess...

Thats the Auxillary connector lead, it was quickly released as a temporary fix until the ipod connector was released.
But I always recommend against the Aux lead, because with the change in law against holding mobile electronic devices whilst driving. If you have the Aux lead, it will mean that you will need to be able to touch it to change tracks/ playlists etc.
The iPod interface lead lets you control the tracks/playlists through the stereos buttons not the iPod, plus the interface charges the iPod as well.
Maybe this is a stupid question but how do I know that I have radio boost?
Just got a 03 Cooper S (my god I am impressed) and want to get the iPod adapter but I am unsure if I have the bost or not. I will obviously be getting it from Halfords or something as the BMW dealer would charge me £130 for the adpater and £150 to fit it.
I admire them for trying.

Is it a CD player? More than likely the Cooper S came with a Booster CD player.
If you want a genuine MINI iPod interface let me know, I'll do you one with 30% off retail.
When we bought our Mini, I flatly refused to pay either the £300 (I think) required for the CD player, £300 for the multichanger or the ~£250 for the fitted ipod cable - they all seemed such a rip off. We've since installed an Alpine CD head unit that has a direct ipod link (not only allowing you to control the ipod through the stereo buttons, but also search songs, albums and playlists through the head unit screen / menus (so the ipod can be hidden in the glovebox). This sounds so much better than the standard fit tape player did, and was only £200 with free fitting (OK, £250 by the time Halfords had charged daft money for the facia adaptor, harness adaptor and antenna adaptor.. grr.. )
Either way, gives you ipod control and a new (probably better) CD player for less than BMW will probably charge for the cable.. (Which as I understood it, loses you your autochanger functions on the BMW head unit..)
