I thinking of buying an early Cerbera (privately) but want to insulate myself from the huge bills that come in tow.
Am I right in thinking that most of the costs come at service-time so if I get one that's just been serviced I'm reasonably safe until the next service?
Also, is it worth getting a warranty on an older cerbie, even if it bottoms out at £1000?

I honestly dont think a warranty is worth the paper it is printed on. We had one with the car originally and it covered very little, nowhere near paying for itself. When it came to renew it we didnt, no regrets so far.
The problem with warranties is the hassle involved, they argue thier way out of the dumbest things! For example someone on pistonheads had a rear shock replaced under warranty, they refused to pay for the other side rear shock though! (think it was Fraser-basher?)
Instead of spending 800+ on a warranty we simply use an extremely good independant who im sure has saved us thousands. The £800 is best spent on the upkeep directly from your pocket than through a warranty company IMHO.

I had a warranty that cost about 800 and I got a starter on it. worth 350 but could have got a starter myself for 120.
When I did have a big bill (5K !) the warranty didnt pay anything towards it even though their limit is 1K on WHA (some versions of warranty). Policy expires today and I am not renewing. What a waste of money.

It's a bit of a loss leader for WHA and they are always looking into them as they haven't made any decent earnings off them for the last three years, but it looks good in their portfolio etc.
Any TVR under 3 years old and 40K can have a WHA warranty to the retail value of the vehicle purchased and anything falling outside this criteria is up to a maximun claim limit of £1000 until you get to 7years and over 1000K and that is a claim limit of £500
You pays your money and takes your chance as they say.

Blo*dy hell, a warranty company that paid out for an engine and a clutch... can't have been WH.
Who is this warranty company? Might join them if its only £375 for such good cover?
How come they didn't argue "wear and tear" for these parts?
I have a warranty with WH and i have found them well probably the dealer to be excellent, most faults have been rectified without any fuss just a few things i have had to pay for. List of items replaced under warranty: starter motor, radiator, shock absorber(1), rev counter, water temp guage, rear crank seal, clutch seals and pistons and a couple of censors. Overall great value and worth the peace of mind. One very satisfied customer.
I had a TVR spirit warranty underwritten by WH. I got a new gearbox out of them, an alternator, starter motor, plus a 1001 little bits and pieces.
As long as you use a dealer/independent that knows how to play the warranty companies, then you should be OK.
£399 on a 3 year old Griff 500.

You're dead right NICE EH it's not so much what you've got but who you know. I've had all sorts of things paid for by warranties that weren't strictly covered, as the garage knows what to put in the claims. Sometimes it's worth paying a little more for a service to get £400 worth of warranty work done
