Just looked at a Boxster - Questions...
Discussion
Hi folks,
Just looked at a Boxster today a silver 1997 2.5 with lux pack and air-con & tracker.
It looked good and I'm proceeding to get the car checked out mechanically and HPI'd.
Not having driven/owned a Boxster before I just have a couple of questions.
I noticed the clutch was quite heavy (heavier than the Jag X-Type I've been driving for the past couple of weeks) - is this normal?
You could hear all the gear lincages when you waddled the gear lever around (with the engine off). I assume this is normal.
There was a little piece of orange plastic missing from the front indicator. The orange part looked to be a seperate piece of plastic the the rest of the headlight. Can these be purchased seperately or do you have to buy a whole new headlight assembly? What are the likely costs.
And finally. Do they have the longest dipstick in the world?
Cheers!
Bob.

the indicator will be a complete headlamp, the cluch cover will have hardend the cover spring up due to heat/ milage, there easy to replace doing one at the moment, you can hear the linkages dont worry just make sure it selects all the gears ok,dipsticks are quite long as its a long way down to that sump,

Cheers for the response chaps.
I'd assumed the clutch would be hydraulic, but what you say about spring hardening sounds reasonable Thong. Is it a clutch out job to replace it?
Just looked at some headlight units on ebay to get an idea of costs and it appears the bit I was reffering to isn't part of the unit. It's not the indicator itself but the bit of orange plastic next to it so hopefully you can buy it seperate.

Yep you can get that piece on its own, just a clip in/out piece.
On cars with headlight washer option that piece has a pray nozzel built in I believe.
I would say replace the front / rear / side lights with clear units (from the later cars) I just think that this really freshens up the look of the car.
Put in "Boxster lights" into Google images & look at the first 2 pics to see what clear lights look like. I would imagine you can get a full set from Ebay somewhere.

That's good news - cheers.
I think I'm one of the few people who like the original orange lights. Especially on the silver cars (which this one is). To me they just seem to need a touch of colour to break up all that silver.
Big orange indicators also remind me of the Ferrari 512BB which is one of my all time favourite car designs.

try porshapart, he has loads i expect. be careful to buy from a reputable source, if i remember correctly the height adjusters are easily broken, so i would prefer porshapart over Ebay IMO.
