After giving up the thoughts of importing my Blackpool made TVR Chimaera I was surfing another forum when a thought struck me after reading a posting. Since the TVR Chimaeras that were built in Malaysia did not get UK/EU type approval would they be considered differently from the Blackpool made cars. The Malaysian factory did not produce many cars and would fall within the limited production numbers. Any thoughts? I know of a couple of them for sale in Hong Kong.

I think this possibility has been considered and, unfortunately, these cars are not differentiated from UK-built ones-ie still TVRs, so same problem(s)

As Roger as stated, we've been down that route and discovered it blocked-off by the LTSA. They were officially TVRs and as such are included in the 'total production' for a manufacturer. In other words the Malaysian cars just made things worse! They did have all the necessary mods and certs for Aussie though which made compliance over there easier than a UK-built car.

I thought that if they were legal in Australia they'd be legal here.

The only way Elises are Legal in NZ is because they somehow get in to Australia and there's an equivalency thing.... but yeah I've heard that the Malaysian cars are considered no differently to the ones from Blackpool

I've even heard that some of the bodyshells made in Malaysia made it back to Blackpool to be used for UK cars!!
