Hi Peeps,

Wanted to know if anyone has been to the factory to pick up their new car? What did you think of it? Is it as good as I think it will be? Thought it would be a nice way to do things and the missus agrees that we can call it a joint Christmas pressie to ourselves.

G

PS Going in the direction of the new 'Meteor Grey' now. I know, I know but we went to look at a new Guards red y'day and unfortunately it didn't blow us away.

Yes. Do it. I picked up my first Porsche - a BoxsterS - that way and then my 997S. I thought the factory tour might be a bit anorakish but it was really well done and learning how your car was put together and then driving it home really creates a bond. You get a nice lunch and the enthusiasm about the place is amazing. I'm picking up my GT3 in Sept. - although I must admit a third factory tour might be a bit much! Make a mini tour of the return leg and treat yourself to a good hotel somewhere along the way. Enjoy!

Wasn't the Boxster made in Finland? seems wierd that they ship it to Germany for you to visit the factory. The I've never understood why we have to pay delivery costs on top of the 40k they charge for the car anyway. But thats another story.

Yes it was - and yes they do! Actually a handfull of Boxsters are made at the German factory each month so that they are up to speed for doing quality checks on the Fins. One of the amazing things about the factory is that all the cars come down the same line - so you'll see a Boxster following a 997s then say a 997cab and so on. No-one's got lucky and had a Turbo lump dropped in their Boxster yet though!
