I have an '81 SC and am having problems with the idle, when stationary it idles OK but after a good run it keeps cutting out, it's such a pain in heavy traffic as I have to keep dabbing the brakes and keeping my foot on the gas! Any suggestions?

Idle control valve is probably gummed up - you need to take it off, clean it out with some electrical contact cleaner or similar (or carb cleaner if you're brave) and then rinse it out with WD40 or similar. This will free it off.

Thanks for the tip! Can I do this myself, I have no mechanical experience!

It'll probably look something like this:

You have to unplug an electrical connector from one end, and undo two rubber hoses from the other end. Not sure how easy it'll be to spot in your engine bay, but one of the rubber hoses will be connected to your inlet manifold for sure.

Undo the electrical connector and the two hoses, take it off the car, clean it out with contact cleaner, rinse it out with WD40, and then blow the remaining gunk out of it. Then re-attach to the rubber hoses and the electrical connector and try it!

Pay attention to the airflow direction arrow (as in the picture below) before you take it off, and put it back on the same way.
