Congratulations on the snow.

Auckland is wet, windy & without power. To celebrate we've got traffic jams and numpties doing U-turns on the on-ramps.

I might take tomorrow off as well . . . to stay in bed & dream of living on the Isle of Man, or some other warmer, drier place

No snow in Dunedin this time but my little brothers been texting me saying they have about a foot of fresh stuff on the ground in Timaru, sounds like fun

I'm living in the wrong place yet again. Dunedin never gets any of the cool weather. Snow in Chch and especially Timaru. Power cut in Auckland. Heavy rain and another tornado in Greymouth. What does Dunedin get? Boring old cloudy day.

Out the back of Fairlie we used tow each other behind the 4WD on old skis and anything else that was slippery. awesome fun miss those days greatly but dont miss the chilling minus tempertures at night time Mind you the Moutain thunder brand of Mulled wine used to go down a treat while milling around in the snow.

How did you survive without fresh croissants and ridiculously overpriced coffee?

Only a sprinkling of snow on the Tararua ranges. Is GravelBen posting from inside his fridge yet?

believe it or not I missed out on the current snow, its been fine and sunny blue skies all day today

haha and the current flat doesn't really qualify for fridge status, it has insulation and even a heatpump. pure luxury for an Otago student flat!

Well we managed without power or phone for 6 days.
Couldnt get the car out of the garage, let alone out the drive, or down the road. Had to wait until mum and dad came over with their 4wd.
Also had to cut up a big bluegum that had fallen over our drive to get the cars out once the snow had gone.
Who says you cant have a BBQ in the middle of winter?
Didnt really mind it, the freezer slowly defrosting and having not hot water were the worst things. But it being so cold, the freezer didnt defrost very fast.

So yeah, we survived. It was fun for the first couple of days but was getting sick of it towards the end.

The view from about 1km up the road from our place.

The dog wasnt keen at all for a start. But then she had a great time bouncing around in it. She was definitely sick of it by day 4 though.

Luckily our power lines stayed up. Just.

Mum and Dad's place the morning of the snow.

The cats staying inside pretty much the whole time. They did venture our now and again thou.

Just outside Timaru. Had about 30cm of snow.
Our neighbours over the back of our farm, they were on a different power line than us. Had about 6 broken poles on it. They were without power for 11 days.
I think almost everyone is back on now.

Awesome pics everyone. Mum and families from Timaru sent me up some pics as well, cant beleive it. Thankfully they all had power. The family in Fairlie been still busy feeding out extra supplies to the stock on the farms. Wish I were down there with my skis and mulled wine - brilliant!

Yeah wouldn't that be cool. Actually Lotus have done all sorts of various prototype things over the years. Was tempted last year to buy a Lotus built time trial bike made of 100% carbon fibre off Ebay. Worked out to be a little expensive to get it home!! But make a great collectors item. One day!
