Ive owned a 997 carrera s cab for a few months now and while it is a great car,I'm thinking of swapping for a 430 spider.Whilst the 997 is far from a family car we have a 9 year old and a baby on the way so at a push we can all go out in it-whereas with the 430 spider it only has 2 seats of course so it will get very little use.Practical wise then its not a very good move but ive always wanted a ferrari(loved the 355 but could not afford one when it was a current model. The 360 I wasnt so keen on,and the 430 is just awesome)What does everyone think??

I dont think you would regret it if you did. Both car are nuts so you cant really go wrong, but IMO F430

P.S If you want you can give me the porsche and then you're free to get the 430, let me know

Lots of the 430 spiders on the market , with Premiums are fetching 150k . In my mind they aren't worth what equates to a Gallardo and a 360

I've not driven either so purely on desirability I'd go with the Ferrari.

It's a nice choice to have to make thought mate.

I do like the gallardo but I thought the spider was quite a bit more expensive when you spec it up and also dont fancy the higher servicing/maintenance costs.(shouldnt really worry about that though cos I probably will have changed it by the time the first service comes around-I dont keep cars a long time)

F430 Spider is in a different world in terms of the drivetrain.

And I have driven both. There's probably not a huge amount in it for low and mid speed cornering, but acceleration, braking and high speed cornering, the F430 would get away.

But enough of this common stuff.

f430 is probably better driving, but the gallardo looks better by far, has 3 year unltd warranty and resale value higher.

997 or 430 , if you like porsches so much why not wait for 997 turbo?

I've done quite a few miles in a 997S (non-cab unfortunately) and an F430 Spider F1 through my ecurie25 membership.

In my opinion - there's no comparison. If you can afford the F430 and its servicing etc, go for it, you certainly won't regret it.

The 997S is a nice car, but its just that to me - nice. Impressive, well built etc etc, but the F430 is a FERRARI....

The noise is pant-moisteningly awesome, made even better by the lack of roof. Find a nice long tunnel and stuff some kleenex down your strides, you'll need it!

The most surprising thing for me about the F430 is just how driveable it is. Stick it in Auto mode (for the F1 obviously....) and you could be driving a Punto its that easy. Apart from selecting reverse that is...

Here's my post of when i had the Fezza, if you're interested:

Resale higher on a Gallardo - err, doubt it very much.

Why should the Gallardo Spyder be any different to the Gallardo?

The F430 Spider will not stray far from list until it is replaced.

I'm sure depreciation will kick in before this, or are you talking about new or near/new cars

the spyder will depreciate less than the gallardo coupe as convertibles generally do, take the 360 spider for reference. a gallardo spyder now commands 20k + premiumn, whereas the gallardo hard top is 3k+ premiumn.

430 spyder will depreciate when they are 3 years old

Thanks for the input so far.997 turbo-yes very fast but my problem with the 997 is it just doesnt feel special enough for the money.Too be honest im not really a balls out merchant, just like cruising around so turbo would not do anything for me that I cannot do in the 997s.Also it has to be a soft top(too make the most of the little good weather in the UK!)I have thought about the gallardo and although it is a great car-its not for me.My other question is F1 or not.Ive seen nearly new 430 spiders manual £135k,F1 155k.Seems a lot extra to me.Is it worth it and will I recoup the extra cash come resale time???

Gallardo Spyders are selling at List+8k (as per Sunday Times)
Gallardo Coupe's sell at no premium

Certain 430s (manual coupes) are below list now
