I was told that you could modify a metro electronic ignition to fit a mini. Is this true?
and what are the costs involved?

Metro Dizzy, Coil, ignition module and a small wiring harness. Its a 15minute job, makes the car drive a lot better and costs under £50!!!!

I have a complete set up in the garage if you want it?

Has anyone had experience of any other electronic dizzies - say Pertronics or Micro Dynamics? I've heard good things about Pertronics but not heard of anyone using this on a Mini.

pertronics is the one that aldon sell as 'theirs' they are pathetic, and never seem to last very long, they used to be very good (im sure they where better when the box didnt mention pertronics, but its a long time ago), but over the last few years ive had loads back under warrenty, which they will never replace (as you have to send them back to the u.s and blah blah). i wont sell them now unless a customer specifically asks for them. we had a spate of them loosing magnets out of the spinner! arrgg!!

the lumenition one is a little dearer, but far better (and the mounting kit is better made), we still get the odd one back faulty, but lumo will always warrenty them (they are a uk based company), and if at fault swop them. i reckon that if i get 10 a year back, 1/2 will be their fault (or doubtful) 1/2 will be operator trouble.

the biggest killer of aftermarket gubbins is people not reading the instructions and either wiring them up wrong (most often), using wrong coils (second often) or using sparkbooster plugleads and other 'kev' parts and what not.

If you're interested in running fancy ignition, type "megajolt" into google. I run a metro dizzy and it's fine.

if it runs fine dont worry. they used to either pack up 'out the box' or the magnets would fall out in heavy use (i.e autograss or rally use)

i know a couple of people who swear by them, its just most people swear at them!

one of those things i guess where a bad batch can colour peoples veiws.

i used lumenition for the last 15 years on my jem, and it never let me down at all. we also use it on my mates hillclimb mini, been a few years now, and again, no problems.

if you fancy swapping the complete metro electronic set up over to your mini, there's a complete guide over on the minifinty forum www.minifinity.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=TechLibrary&file=doku&id=wiring_up_a_metro_electronic_distributor
