Anybody out there have any experience of the early tiptronic boxes on 968's ?
I understand the loss of performance over the manual, but a recuring knee injury may force the change on me in the near future. I have not heard of any known weakness in the system ? I understand they sell cheaper than the manuals, but this would be to my advantage. 911 virgin has a nice white model at the moment, I wonder what i could sell the old 944 S2 for ? ............

Thanks

didnt like it myself. found the box very agricultural and it saps well over a second off the 0-60 sprint, which was far more noticeable to me than i thought it would be. however! at the moment ive got a 1.2l renault clio automatic as a loan car whilst the 968 is being serviced and, cant believe i'm saying this, i quite like it.... what with a sore foot and the hot weather, its a relief not to have to change gear And remember that the 968 manual box is closer ratio'd than the 944 so gearchanges are more frequent. also the clutch is a tad on the heavy side. so all other things being equal then maybe the tip wasnt so bad after all.

christ, i'm getting old

edited to say that despite some drawbacks the tip box does have a reputation for being very reliable. on the other hand the 968 manual clutch is fairly easy to replace, much easier/cheaper than the 944....

I guess it depends on what you are going to use the car for, the benefits of the tip gear box in town are obvious.

However, the manual gearbox is a joy to use and the clutch is lighter than my MG but they do get juddery in traffic, esp in this weather.

The white one on 911 Virgin has been there for ages. It looks fantastic. Might be time for you to strike a bargain?

If it has a dark interior they are like a sauna (I have to drive fast just to get some air into the car, honest officer) but cars with AirCon are very very hard to find.

Something that belongs to a 968 tiptronic?
