Afternoon All,

Hope your all out enjoying the sun! but for those of you who aren't... my car is in for repair (see "996 leak" ) I asked them to check the brake pads too and apparently one is nearly completely warn and have quoted me £300 odd to replace - is this a good price? Is it better (cheaper) to do it elsewhere?

Thanks

Pads cost circa £50 and take ten minutes per side to replace. Make your own mind up

You asked them to check and surprise surprise they need doing. What made you ask ? Have you noticed degradation in braking ? and £300 is that for the front and rears ???

Personally I'd go elsewhere.

Who's doing the work? Did you ask for a breakdown of the labour/parts split?

Rip-off merchants.

Bet you they're a main dealer - but no names to be named, of course.

noooo, look at design911.co.uk or motorsportworld.co.uk for the proper prices.

Silly prices not just restricted to OPCs i'm afraid, got quoted £150 more than the above guys for a set of pads the other day by a leading indie.

Cheers

I asked because the brakes have been squeeking lately, even braking softly... major annoyance. I'm not mechanical at all (I'm sure you can tell from my posts! ) so I asked them to check the pads. Apparently one of the brake pads is about to trigger the warning lights on the dash, the OPC seemed helpfull though, but I'm obviously out for the best price, I don't have cash burning a hole in my pocket unfortunately

If it's just one set of brake pads that need changing then total labour time should be one hour (two at a push) plus the cost of the parts.

The job is very easy to do and just about any mechanic or anybody than can wield a spanner can do it. If you don't fancy doing it yourself or can't get a mate to do it then buyt he parts from an OPC and get your local mobile mechanic to pop round in his van and do the job in your drive way.

Good luck.

Two hours at OPC rates plus parts plus VAT comes in at about £300.....

If it takes more than an hour to do an complete axle you're being mugged. Took me twenty minutes per side including jacking up and putting on axle stands etc. and it was the first time I had done the job. With a four post lift I would do the job in half an hour start to finish next time.

I didn't go for it ... the price I was quoted was just for rear pads
