Sorry to post this on a general motorsport website but I am about to put together a DVD of some of Gerry's (my Dad) driving for my family and I want to know if it's something outside of the family that people would be interested in, I suppose a bit like what we did with Haynes and Only Here for the Beer.

I have footage from the early 70s (Crystal Palace, Battle of the sexes), through the 70s (the Barry Hinchcliffe DTV stuff and also Triplex Facesavers Dolomite stuff), The Dubai GP in '81, early Production Saloons in the 80s, unseen in-car footage that wasn't included in Vintage G&T and then some bits and bobs from the 90s (Ford Sierra Saphire Cosworth, TVR Tuscan, DB4) and I suppose I could add Goodwood (but might get into trouble!!).

Would be interested to know the general opinion.

If you are producing the DVD at a commercial level (ie selling it!) then check that you have the rights to use any archive footage that you have.

It can be a minefield, but if you release something on a commercial level without obtaining the correct rights first, then it will become much more expensive if the rights holders complain once the product is released!

I think that makes sense!

Good idea Gregor. I was watching my 'Lap of the Gods' DVD a couple of nights ago. Great viewing, particularly in-car footage.

I was a marshall at Brands in Gerrys heyday, so I am definitely in the market for this one. The glory days of Special Saloons eh, Gerry, Nick Whiting, Norman Abbott and many more, fantastic.

Thanks for the post, Gregor - I'd definitely buy a DVD with Gerry's exploits, if only because I was not fortunate to have been there to see them! Any such production wouldn't do the man justice if it didn't show his social side but I guess you're a far far better judge of that than me.

It would be good to have footage from the 2004 Revival with Gerry driving the Alvis Grey Lady to within an inch of its life - I would have thought Lord March, being a true enthusiast, would give this his blessing.

He`s a hero ...Duke sell some good videos but not Gerry Marshall specific stuff..just the Avon tour of Britain in the late 70`s...Some footage brought together into a DVD sounds great..

A great idea, we need personalities in motor racing..!
One of the 1st race cars I bought was the Formula Ford Lotus 61 that Gerry raced in the late 60s, It had the chassis plate Lotus 61 L ... the L was especialy for Gerry, denoting Large.
I'll have a copy please.

Gregor,

An excellent idea. I'd love a copy of the DVD.

Your father will always be one of my hero's, and I'm saddened that I couldn't get my car sorted sooner, as I'm sure he would have loved to given it a "go", as it's a more modern answer to Baby Bertha - an Astra Saloon with a big Chevy V8, and lots of horsepower!

Yes please. Especially if you can get the BBC coverage of the (I think) Crystal palace race in the Vauxhall, and also any footrage of him in the Marsh Plant Aston V8. So many people have so many memories of him as a drive, I'm sure it would prove popular.
