With the upcoming Marham & Honington track days within the next month, I'm looking for a good tyre shop within 20ish miles of Cambridge that I can get some cheap yet good tyres or maybe part worns for my MINI.
I have the Pirelli Euphoria runflats 205/45/17 on at the moment which are ok but not much fun and horrendously expensive - upwards of £130.00 a corner! Part worns were £50.00 from my favourite Midlands garage.

I've had a quick shufty on Google for tyre centres, there seems to be quite a few - so just wondering does anyone have any recommendations for range of tyres/service/prices round here?

Or, if I bought some tyres from the net, how much do you think a garage will charge me for fitting?

I think my choices at the moment are Federals or Kumho for budget to rip up on the trackdays or maybe part worn runflats (again!) or new Bridgestone RE040s (£110 fitted per tyre).

Hannah.

I used Huntingdon Performance tyres last time for my Chim and they were very good in terms of both service and cost. They're based in Godmanchester (just outside of huntingdon) and the chap in charge seemed to know what he was talking about - they do all the work for Offords.
They supplied and fitted 2 Falken 451s and fitted only 2 Eagle F1s to my Chim. Purchased the F1s on-line from valuetyres.co.uk/com (can't remember which) and they charged £10 each to fit and balance.
They also stock Kuhmo (know several peeps using the Ecstas on their TVRs with good results) if thats what you're after, though I'd seriously recommend the Falkens.

I've started to use an outfit based in Sawston called Alfa-Sport (01223 839299 iirc)
Lots of Alfas there for reason, never worked out why

Prices are usually pretty good as they apparantly sell at trade price and just charge fitting. Worth a call anyhoo

Apex tyres in Peterborough are excellent if you're north of Cambridge.

If your looking at track use why not buy wheels and tyres from ebay???

If not I've used Cambridge Performance Tyres in the past who seem fairly good.

Or as an alternative I purchased tyres for my Boxster through Event Mobile Tyres, they come to you.... You'll have to search for their web site.

You mean like 'Can you fit my tyres whilst dressed as Maria from The Sound of Music'?

Sadly nothing as amusing silly They were one of the places that would entertain changing track tyres onto my wheels for me and would actually listen to my requests and help source / advise on the cheapest available options rather than just what they had in stock or made most profit on.

You could try George Polley Motorsport - 01354 688111, think they're in Cambridge maybe March or somewhere, I always get mine delivered, £50 for Yoko A048R's, which is as cheap as I've found them alywhere else. Guess they'd do tyres for yours too.

Well I'm getting tyres fitted on Tuesday & have opted for Toyo Proxes T1-R to be fitted at a garage literally 5 minutes away. Phoned all the big boys (Cambridge & Huntingdon Performance Tyre Centres, blackcircles.com, mytyres.co.uk) who charged upwards of £99.00 per tyre fitted.

Anyway, very pleased to be getting them for £76.38 fitted. thumbup

Despite Cambridge Performance Tyres being highly recommended by not only the guys on here & several at Scotts work, I thought they were perhaps the rudest people I've ever dealt with and openly took the piss when I said Toyo TR-1 instead of Toyo T1-R (amongst other things). Not very nice at all. furious

But I'm getting some great tyres for almost half of their quoted price! yes

www.camskill.co.uk for the tyres - they are coming on Tuesday and then Ely Tyre Centre is fitting them (but I'm just taking the wheels not whole car to them) for £5.00 per wheel.
