Tips please! I'm cycling from St Malo to Pontarlier

The title sums it up.
Next month I will cycle from St Malo to Pontarlier (25) allowing myself three weeks, but hopefully will use a fortnight and then have a week to recuperate.
Where possible, I aim to use D roads and preferably cyclepaths and towpaths. I am not aware that the French have anything equivalent to the UK National Cycle Network - am I right?
I love France, speak French, but this will be my first major cycle ride (I usually drive), will be going soft (Youth Hostels/Hotels not camping).
Any advice from the PH francophiles regarding routes (or anything else) would be much appreciated.
