Water gardens Karaka 27th Aug Run

.......better late than never....
Just a reminder about Sunday 27th meeting at the Water gardens Karaka.
(This event replaces the normal Monday Lotus Club rooms meeting)
For those who are coming, it is suggested that we meet at the Domain (out side the Museum by the Cannons or as close as) at 10.00 am or at BP Papakura (on the Motorway
at 10.30).

Yeah great day, you would have loved it, but am afraid the camber on the roads would probably have eaten the westie. The weather was best I have seen it in ages, clear skies and pretty warm. The Tour was excellent and was run through some of the Targa stages out the back of Tuakau, was pretty full on and lovely twisties!!
Our day started off pretty good, the group was well split from the beginning as some people dashed in to get last minute supplies and others were taking their own course to get there. We found a group from the start that Simon and I were in and we all decided to plant the boot...Yehaaa!! We headed out second behind a VX220 and sandwiched by another VX220 behind us with Roger P chasing hard in the TD2000
After five mins feeling good and getting dialled in to the twisties with the stickies well heated up, we pushed harder stepping the rear out a few times - whoops!. We made room for the Porker to pass us at a great rate of knots and took the lead. I then realised the map was in Ks and my car reads in miles....duh. So we followed the VX220 for a while till he took a wrong turn and I thought right get the brain going and start converting over to miles - like now!! We pressed on in good position but unfortunately Simon was going to be :sick: He threatened that if I weren't to slow or stop the leather was going to wear his McDees he ate for breakfast on the way out!! So watching Roger and the VX220 pass I was feeling 
to say the least! We didn't see anyone chase us from behind or in front and found our way to the gardens no worries. Turned out we got second place behind Roger as the front runners took some wrong turns 
So was a good day after all .
We soon learnt Nik's wife in the Black Esprit SE threw up on the side of the road and one other lady was holding her breath as well!! Not fun for the Co drivers! I selfishly admit it was the most fun I had in ages
Quite a good turn out of various models. Um lets see there were:
5 Esprits
3 Elise
2 VX220
New Porsche Carerra S (What was it?)
New Alfa
TD2000 - Goes like a cut cat!
Lotus 7
2 Elans
2 Europas?
TR8
MR2 and various other family cars.

Dean (Kiwi LE) and I set off about 25 minutes after the last of the pack but pretty much caught them up by the end, so we weren't stopping around to sniff daisies. Can report that my suspension geometry mods seem to be taking the car in the right direction.... a little more work and she'll be great.
Must send Charles a thanks for organising that run. Am going to hold on to the route map so I can drive it again sometime

he wasn't saying much and appeared to look a little white round the cheeks! I enjoyed it, but there were a few moans by some people saying the kms werent correct, but theres always going to be some small things not perfect. Be interesting if they decide to do it again next year. Dont know how your car was, but after washing the caked mud off last night around the wheel arches I noticed some rather nasty stone chips. Looked like it had been in a rally!!
We weren't going by the KMs at all really... other than a rough guide. Like you, we're in miles, so couldn't be arsed doing calculation on the fly. I was just concerned about keeping my baby on the black stuff and shiny side up.
I've not noticed any more stonechips, although I've not really looked... got some cleaning to do before I drive the car again. My car's so stonechipped at the front though it doesn't really matter, I'm having a front clam respray next year I think so I'll sort it all out then. Stonechips don't bother me too much, they show the car is well loved and well used

yup-Ellerslie(ish)- I wasn't in the Fraser so you won't have spotted me. By the way, a bit of Goss: Fraser cars has been sold. Neil has sold to Scott (who has been running the place anyway) so not much change but Scott is going for greater production.
Aah ok... Daniel (my passenger) and I were running late so I was "pressing on" so to speak, without doing anything terribly illegal.
Interesting news on Fraser, is Neil retaining part ownership as a silent partner? or is he moving onto other things/retirement?

My understanding was that Neil was the only authorized certifier at Fraser Cars ?¿?
Presume he'd have to stay on, atleast until someone else could issue the all-important paperwork.
Maybe the bureaucracy finally got to him after his blow-off valve failed
