Rover 200 ( well Concerto ABS )

Hope someone can help me here. I have a really superb Honda Concerto on a K plate. It's a special edition called Blaise and is mint.
Today it developed a problem with the ABS. Here are the symptoms :
1) For a while now their has been an intermittant noise which seemed to be coming from the offside wheel well. Sounded mechanical like a noisy pump. This may or may not have anything to do with the problem.
2) Today the ABS light came on and I've since discovered that it only illuminates when the car's moving.
My worry was that it was the ABS Pump which would be expensive at least £360 for the part alone. with the warning light illumination only when the cars moving makes me think it may be a wheel sensor.
Any mechanics have an opinion ?
