When I bought my C4S about 6 months ago I had a look at 996 Turbos and it seemed to me that prices had just hit £50k for the older / higher miles / lower spec / really badly coloured interior / scruffy examples. However looking last night at autotrader I found a few sub £50k which were decent spec / colour and not too many miles. Have prices come down a bit or is it just my imagination?

Yep prices have fallen, look to pay about £50k for a decent spec, decent mileage 02 onwards car with full PSH.
I bought mine used for £72k just over 2 years ago, its now worth about £50k.

It was a £90k car new, so its lost £40k in 4 years which isn't so bad really long term.

People are I think put off by the running costs. Mine hasn't cost me a penny outside usual servicing, but a friend's has cost him nearly £5k to run over the last 12 months !

Values do seem all over the place at the moment though - Glasses guide doesn't help, they don't list mileage adjustments for the model and seriously under estimate the average mileage these cars are doing. If you look on the classifieds for example there is a real range of prices asked for almost the same cars, very odd.

Thats the diffrence between Turbo men & NA men. the £40k that car has lost buys a lot of NA 996. you do need money to spare to get into these cars.

hi
i agree. prices appear to be all over the place. no pattern to the private market. i just picked up a 2001 996 tt, silver with 30,000 mls for £42k. car is immaculate and sailed through the porsche 11 point check for warranty. this is my first turbo porsche and so far i am very impressed.

...that is a cracking price, was it accident damaged previously, or does it have nephrite ruffled leather laugh I presume it was a private sale?

Out of interest if I may, where did the 5k get spent? and was it an older car?
thanks , Kristian

as i'm current on the hunt for my perfect 996 turbo i totally agree about the vast differences in prices. not just from OPC but also specialists. There does not seem to be any reasons behind why some cars are more etc obviously i know certain colours reduce the costs etc but i'm begining to feel like i'm being unrealistic in my budget / spec as i do want my cake and eat in on a purchase on this ammount.

Its very simple ..There arent many GOOD tt's out there for sale..they all look the same on paper but most of them are shit..I have a long history on cars and most people knock the shit out of them, get the services done and expect to get away with it.Find a perfect spec, mint car and it will hold its money.I looked at 30 cars over 7 months before i bought, because most owners dont give a toss...its part of the dealer/finance world we live in that Glasses guide prices are important,..find a cherished, garage, polished 03 turbo with 15k on the clock and glasses/traders reckon its only worth 2k more than a Sainsburys run around with car park dents, corrosion, tatty interior and 20k on the clock.i wouldnt buy a 996 tt if it wasnt chersished whatever the price.

you have obviously looked at more then i have. There are loads of tt's out there and i imagine all great examples not just my perfect turbo. i'm after a specific spec and just can't see one for the money i have to spend. ive only been looking for a few weeks so time will tell. the one pain is that all the cars that tick all the boxes for me are tip's and not manuals..

no i havn't bought one cos i havn't found EXACTLY what i want for my 55k. perhaps "loads" is an overstatement - perhaps "several" is a btter description?

to be honest no i havn't tried one. perhaps i should get me flame suit ready but for me a tip is not what i want from a car. Even if the porsche tip was totally amazing i would still want a manual. nothing personnal to all tip owners but each to their own.

Trust me 90% of them will be shit..everyone has talked the tt into 'cheap' buying zone so lots of people now looking..all of them getting fed up with looking at rubbish cars...what do people expect,if you slash prices quality goes down coz its not worth looking after it..

what is the spec of yours Kay? and how much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking? As you have said above you did a lot of test drives so knowing what you have / paid will give me an idea if i'm being unrealistic in my search...

be careful - he's likely to give you a 'dealer adjusted' script - before trying to sell you it at a 10k markup since thats what dealers do anyway, and he'll spend more on preperation and coffee than them so you should pay for it...
