Cayman S - resale value
Discussion
Just come across this in the classified:
www.pistonheads.com/sales/102651.htm
I've totted up the options and I reckon they're about £7,500 worth.
So, new the car was about £52 and he wants about £48 for it.
If he gets it, that seems like a very strong residual, much higher than I would have thought.
The question is, is it a reasonable price / is he likely to get this?
Ben
(Not looking at selling mine for at least another 12 months!)

You're right, www.pistonheads.com/sales/102302.htm , however the options are pretty poor:
Basalt Black (how much is this) £600?
Leather (can't remember this either £500?
Porsche Sound System (that's the basic, no extra charge, one isn't it?) £0
PSM: Included £0
Climate: £300
19" Design : £1200
So that would look like about £2.5k-ish, so not only would the original price would be lower but it's less desirable.
My thoughts anyway

One thing always seems to be true of Porsches; you lose all the money you spent on options....and you lose even more if you didn't spec nice wheels, metallic paint and a few other choice goodies. Then, if you're trading it in to an OPC, you lose their costs and margin. And that's assuming they tell you it's worth the price of a new standard one - they're likely to figure it's depreciated some. In all probability if you bought a £50K Cayman S and it's a month old....you'll get: -
£50000
-£6000 options
-£4000 dealer margin
Trade in value £40,000.
Then they put it on their forecourt for near as damn it list.
Seems fair to me...NOT.

£48k sounds a touch optimistic but it'll be interesting to see if it goes.
My 5k miles '06 Arctic Cayman S has a high spec (full black leather, Sports Seats, BiXenon, Auto Climate, Extended SatNav, 19" SDs, Phone, Sound Upgrade, Park Assist, MF Steering Wheel, Installed Porsche Tracker and other stuff I can't quite recall) and I'd be pretty happy to see even close to that price for it to be honest. My opinion is that depreciation starts *after* the £3-5k it loses once you drive away in it...
Hell of a car though - very very highly recommended.

But the thing is a car without those 6,000 of options would be valued even less (being a pig to shift). £50000
-£6000 options
-£4000 dealer margin
Trade in value £40,000.
Of course the only way to avoid it is to either not buy new.... not buy at all
