mmm beeeeerrr. mmm bbq.... mmmm bathurrsst.

hopefully a Ford wins this time round (just to stir things up a little ) Or it could be like last year, Lowndes leading comfortably until his windscreen got smashed by a wheel falling off a holden. (not such a rare occurence from what I've been told by a mate working at a holden dealers - the factory like to send them out with mismatched wheels on them)

Think you got your request mate. The other half was pretty happy for Ford to win as well. Was a great few laps at the end. Safety car must have came out more than 10 times?
The parade of Brocks ex race cars was pretty sad and touched a few hearts across the world no doubt.

If only Ford and Holden would let other manufacturers play the racing may seem slightly more interesting than netball.

Yeah let the Sierra Cosworths and GT-Rs back in, mop the floor with the lot of them.

Despite the whole thing though the Ford V Holden thing has been THE most successful mainstream race formula in the world, it's 14 years old now without a major reinvention.

One thing I DID notice though was that the grid was much smaller for this event at Bathurst, only 30 cars on the grid, whereas in the past there's been 60 or more. Part of this is due to the "tier 2" championship obviously, but for the first time in living memory the race (although exciting because of the incidents) was actually boring traffic-wise, one of the biggest challenges at the endurance races.

Personally I think the V8 formula is dying, give it another 4 years and the ever-spiralling costs will mean that every Holden team will end up being run or managed by HRT and FPV/Stone Brothers will be running all the Fords.

Time for some back to basics remodelling methinks. AND LET SOME OF THE OTHER BRANDS HAVE A PLAY!

It it a bit restrictive, but theres no doubt that it makes some brilliant close racing and a pretty level playing field. I think thats part of why its been so successful, it appeals to the old tribal nature (aspecially in aussie, where they're a bit more stone-age in mentality ) And theres only two different marques to to choose where your allegiance goes.

A world V8 touring series would be awesome though, Ford/Holden/Jag/Merc/BMW/Audi/Lexus/Yanks/Porsche soon/whoever else could all put large RWD V8 race cars on a grid if they wanted to, especially with the media attention you could get from that level of racing with the right drivers involved.

Comparing Aus V8's with netball is pretty harsh though, its always close, action packed motorsport, streets ahead of Formula 1 etc for entertainment value (and dare I say, actual 'racing')

hehe Actually members of the family who are netball nutters would dispute this argue
I am neither a Ford or Holden fan and the fact that other marques should be included like the good ol days has already been thrashed to bits in the past. We can wish all we like. Still love to see some racing Loti and Volvo station wagons hurtling around yikes hehe
