Looks like something from a Happy Meal vomit

They've had the new font for some time now. Wonder why they changed? Maybe the government thought they needed to spend some more of tax payers money they had surplus of???

On a side note Personalised Plates are supposed to be going up in December and again 6 months after that to well over $800. They said their prices were outdated and to be brought in line with Australia and other countries?

Hmmmmm

Maybe there should be some 'local loop unbundling' hehe to prevent a private company from making a super-profit from a statutory monopoly.

$800!!! eek And this from a company that deliberately hyped the market to make auctioned plates "valuable"
Anyway you have to be a complete tosser to own a set of personalised plates...........
Mine say STEAMS it was for my steam car but it's now going on the boat trailer.

Hmmm... we have a much smaller population than Australia, and presumably the other comparison countries, which should mean relatively less demand and lower cost for the same combinations of letters andf numbers on a piece of tin. rolleyes But I don't suppose a monopoly has to bother themselves with supply and demand economics.

Apparently the dies for the old plate font were worn out and needed replacing anyway, so took the opportunity to change them to one that cameras could read easier. THe next step will be like in the UK where cameras automatically record where youve been.

The price of plates is rediculous. When I took my pplates off my car before I sold it it cost $13 to put regular plates back on it, figure they have to make the pplate for you rather than taking it off a run but why cant they be $100, there would still be lots of profit in it

I kinda hate the new font-erised numberplates. Just don't look as nice as the current ones.

Pure profiteering.... and the new font was developed here at my work... it's designed to be easier recognised by electronic character-reading devices as the old plates were very ambiguous.

Thanks for the welcome!

I spent a few months working and touring in your spectacular country back in '04, and was surprised to see euro-style plates on cars.

BTW, is there any place where I could get a NZ 'euro' plate?
I like to pick up plates from places I visit. On my trip I got a Cook Islands set and an Oz plate....but no NZ plate. (I presume that www.plates.co.nz only sell plates to NZ residents and/or charge a lot for them, i.e. cost too much just to hang on my garage wall! )

You can only order the production of a personalised plate for a specified vehicle.

Although I reserved my XTR2 plate months before, I couldn't order it's production until the car had first been registered with a standard plate banghead

Are you after a specific plate or any old thing?

I'm not sure what happens to plates on cars that go to a wreckers ?¿?

Any NZ plate - though preferably a 'euro-style' plate (....and ideally with a '0' in it. I like the way NZ zeros have a slash/line through them ....only country that does this AFAIK.)

I know that www.germanplates.com do NZ replica plates in the euro style, but the font is the same as the German one.... ie, it's a german plate that looks similar to a NZ euro style one.... they do ones to order.... the fonts are pretty similar, but the "0" would be in the same way the germans do it.

Yes, I have seen the germanplates.com site. However, I wish to obtain a genuine NZ plate.

Cheers,
Fouga.

You could try signing into www.trademe.co.nz (NZ online auction site) and negotiate with the seller before hand if they would send to Ireland. Theres plenty of cheap ones there esp to suit a PHer with car themes in mind

Cheers
